When my boys are older, I am thinking of going back to university to restart my degree in art, then get qualified to become an art therapist. I would love to work with kids in a hospice setting. In the meantime I am going to do some mural work for babies, kids and teenagers, and kids paintings. I want to get a sketch book together to practice sketching mural plans.
If you were to have a mural for your childs room what theme would you like?
Also what price range would you be looking at?

go for it!i always wanted to do art therapy i was about to start volontering at local hospital but it closedthen lost interest!

i think for murals id like
dd(aged 7)-fairies and toadstools
ds1-aged 6-planets
ds2 aged 2-farmyard

not sure on price range as its something i could do myself so couldnt think of price.

Thanks moljam, that's the problem I have got, because ican do it for myself I have no idea what to charge! Ooh I might ask my local hospital if I can volunteer.

why dont you start thread in chat just asking if anyone has paid for murals for childrens rooms or nurserys and what they had and how much they paid.also look through phone book and find companys that do it and ask how much they charge average.

volunterring would be great as you can get experience before properly comitting yourself to it and have the experience before you get qualification.good luck!

my ds is 3 - i would love to do a "wild things" mural over the whole room!!!
or maybe "the gruffalo"
but he'd probably like a pirates theme!
no idea how much you should charge though - maybe same rate as a painter&decorater?

i love the idea of a mural and i'd be happy to pay for it. i think i'd pay more than the standard rate for a painter / decorator, because of the creativity involved.

i think you have to take into account cost of materials and the time it'll take including consultations, buying materials and the actual painting.

Depends how long it would take to do - days or weeks?

I would probably be prepared to pay about £200 plus materials for a castle and knights to be painted on DS1. Don't know how realistic that is though.

ds is too old for a mural now but he'd have loved a woodland/nature scene or a seaside scene...

btw, I lived in a house which had the entire sitting room painted as a trompe l'oeil - all marble statues,pillars and a lemon on a plate - loved it !
