I’ve ordered a starters embroidery kit on a whim as I need some way of reducing my anxiety which is fuelled by too much news.

Anyone care to share any good websites, you tubers or any other information? I love the look of floral wreath hand embroidery but that might too much for a novice!

Stamped cross stitch kits are a good beginner starting place. Loads to choose from online too.

Pinterest has lots of links and beautiful ideas.

I find it really relaxing and I can do it sat on the sofa next to my children watching movies.

Last year I had a subscription to an embroidery box. I currently have 4 sitting in a drawer waiting to be done 😂 This might be their time.

It was 1 per season and came with the embroidery thread, fabric, hoop, a teabag, a gift and another craft. Possibly it was Craftpod.

If you want something less boring try makers like 8bitnorthxstitch on Etsy or Twitter - they design cross stitch patterns like "every iteration of David Bowie" and "the league of gentlemen". Worth a look.

I ordered my kit from amazon, plenty on there, it came with hoops and 100 colours of thread. Have discovered Diana Vingert on YouTube so am slowly following one of her tutorials when I have the headspace.

I really like the Bothy Threads kits, especially the ones which are just black threads on coloured canvas - doesn't need as much concentration so works better for me right now! Something like this one: www.amazon.co.uk/Bothy-Threads-Fairy-Counted-Stitch/dp/B06W568W35/ref=mp_s_a_1_32?dchild=1&keywords=bothy%20threads%20cross%20stitch&qid=1586297648&sr=8-32&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Just found this 'thread' Grin

I did a couple of embroideres when i was younger, one Holly Hobby one at school that I was always gutted that i lost along the years.

I'm looking at starting again or really starting from scratch.

I quite fancy going very traditional Irish linen with flowers type pattern.
Do you any of you know of any good ones?
I found a couple on Etsy but not sure if they would be suitable for a beginner stage.

Etsy is great for patterns and kits, also Instagram good for inspiration. I avoid buying of Amazon as many of them are copies of small designers kits available on etsy. Few suggestions I love ponystitches for cross stitch, faimyxstitch (actually embroidery) and jessicalongembroidery. All can be found on Instagram with links to etsy and sell patterns or kits suitable for beginners

I have recently got into embroidery. This company in France do amazing kits. They are not cheap but they're really beautiful when finished.

It's definitely a great lockdown activity.

Some of these are really lovely. Thank you for the link.

My emroidery arrived today and I'm keen to to get started but it doesn't have a hoop.

I think I have a hoop somewhere for years ago but think it may be smaller than the design.

Can I move it about as I do different parts of the embroidery?

Yes to etsy! I just ordered a lovely rainbow sampler kit to get started with although I am also cross stitching a lot as well!
Pinterest has lots of good ideas and charts as well for practising cross stitch.

DMC also have lots of lovely free patterns and you can choose to buy the thread that goes with it as well and make it up into a little kit - or just download the pattern and choose your own colours.
