these albums any cheaper from a stockist that also sells the refill packs of page protectors...?

Or different 12 x6 albums.

not a fan of 12x6 myself either... feels like the 12" is too long for the 6"
11.5x8 isn't too bad as the proportions sill feel good to me, it's weird doing it when not square but it's quite a nice weird.
I've seen a lovely calenar projects that works well in this size mind

I've bought them from some where or other now (£11so much cheaper than the original link which works for me : ). They're horizontal ones and are for an A-Z book that 'Frau mentioned on another thread. I have the idea that the shape is perfect for one picture and then the letter to the side. Not sure they'd work for ordinary layouts though. And the vertical ones just look plain wrong.

I got my albums and have been happily filling them.

I was right - the layout is ideal for the A-Z idea, it works really well.
