Help! Absolute Beginner

In a stroke of inspiration I've just brought
this really pretty wool from Aldi However I'm now googling knitting patterns online and getting really lost.
The label says I need size 4mm knitting needles, each ball is 100g 180m (approx) and 100% acrylic
Can somebody help me define what kind of yarn it is? And a good starter pattern, I'm thinking of a nice scarf or shawl.

If the label says 4mm needles then it is likely to be double knitting (DK) yarn.

Have a look at Ravelry for patterns. It's free to register and you can search by craft, yarn type etc. Many patterns are free too.

For example I have just searched on Ravelry for "Scarf" and got 18,000+ results. Filtering these by "knitting", "free availability", "DK", ""has photo" and "difficulty - easy" narrows it down to just over 250 options. I like the Seafoam Scarf.

Jumping on here as I love a good knit and am getting sick of creating patterns in my head.

YouTube is amazing for instructions on how to do different stitches and if you don't yet have a preferred technique you could try both continental and English style knitting, the yarn is held in different hands for both and one will probably be more intuitive for you.
