Help with making a special knitted/crochet blanket

My lovely friend recently gave me all of her decreased Mum’s wool, needles and patterns. Amongst the stuff in there were 4 strips of knitted squares. Apparently she used these to make blankets for family but never made one for my friend. I’d love to somehow finish this blanket. Currently i’ve got 4 long strips of garter stitch squares (about single bed length but now wide enough).

I’m a much better crocheter than knitter and my first thought was to sew the strips together then crochet round with a neutral colour until it’s a good size. Is this a shit idea?

I could knit more rows but i’m worried about tension etc.

Need to get move on with it to finish it before her birthday.

How long are the strips?
I'd be tempted to use them as stripes, at top and bottom of blanket with a neutral middle - maybe granny squares?

It's a really lovely thought!

Could you do Cosy Stripe (Attic 24 ) rows with the Knitted panels interspersed between them? Then a crochet border.

They’re quite long...over 6 foot but only a few inches wide. I love the idea of mixing it in with granny squares and could maybe do alternating stripes which would make it a good width.

Cosy stripe is also great idea saucery

It could go:
Cosy Stripe - Granny squares - Knitted panel and repeat, with a border. Be a lovely mixture of stitches and textures.

Could you use the strips as a border and crochet a double blanket/bedspread within them?
