Has anyone tried the MJs Off The Hook hooded owl blanket??

I would love to have a go at this (and also her dragon blanket).

However I'm fairly new to crochet and am struggling to work out which yarn I will need. Each time I think I've worked it out I'm shocked by how much it would cost me.

Has anybody found a cost effective way of making this project? Where do you purchase your yarn for it? I'm in South Wales if that makes a difference.

I have been buying Marriner Super Chunky from Shawn for some other projects. Would this work? Is it the same as super bulky?
