Dressmakers and curtain-makers, where and how do you store your bolts of materials please?

I keep mine in those hideous plastic check laundrette bags but they are so bulky and unattractive and actually not very practical because you have to keep taking out all the things on top out to gain access to those at the bottom. Any ideas please? I've built up quite a collection of material (some quite bulky furnishing fabric) and I'm fed up of tripping over it or alternatively not being able to find what I want when I want. Any tips gratefully received!! Thank you!

Buy some open shelves (they do really basic wooden sets in Ikea) and store smaller bits in boxes etc on the shelves too.

I say this as my fabric is littered all over the house in cardboard boxes, bags and the floor!!

Sorry - mine is all in a trunk, and when I last went to look for something I found all sorts of gorgeous fabric I had forgotten I had - fun, but a bit embarassing!

Anyone have a load of nice plain white/cream linen they would like to swap for a free rein in my fabric trunk?
