how do you paint gingham?

i am painting some wooden letters of my cousins name, she wants one pink/white gingham, how do i do this?

i imagine ill need some masking tape??

the letters are 6' inches tall so not too fiddly

I would paint it white first then, when it's dry, mask of squares to paint pink, then let it dry and I think you'd need to mask it off again to get the remaining pink squares... Or is gingham white, pink and a paler pink...?

Yes, gighma is three colours so you'd need to mask it off twice, letting it dry each time. Start with white, then paint pale pink, then pink.

How small are you doing the gingham squares?

If you are doing small gingham checks then could you just not freehand paint on the pink? (over a basecoat of white)

Otherwise use a pencil and draw/mark out the squares. Then paint in between the lines.

If it's larger squares you are doing then you could need masking tape but you may have to half it lengthwide (if its too wide)

yep, you need white and 2 shades of pink
Paint everything white first.

Mask alternate rows and paint light pink, leave to dry, peel off.
Mask alternate columns and paint pink, leave tape on.
Mask the first rows again, paint remaining showing squares dark pink.
Leave to dry & peel off.

You need to put rows of tape one tape width apart 9to make it easy) horizontally and vertically, leaving bare squares. Paint these pale pink. Remove tape and the retape when dry int he same way but covering the pale pink squares and paint the bare bits pink. I think this will then leave you with the 3 colours of pink squares!!
