Starting a business - sewing - where do I start?

I have a small part-time job which covers my basic expenses.

I have always sewn - I can do basic repairs, make clothes, do simple alterations, make home furnishings, and do upholstery. I can also embellish things (dance wear, clothing, household objects)

I need a name and I need an advertising plan

I am always know as "DD's Mum" and at the Ballet Show last year (Large Theatre) it was announced that the costumes were done by person's name, person's name and of course DD's Mum who did x, y, z

So do I use her name? or my name? or my nickname - which came about because my Nana's knitted and had little labels embroidered with "Handmade by Joey Mac" & I loved them so much she had some made for me "Handmade by Katy Mac"

So far I have.....from a brain storming session with one of DD's friends

......maybe handwash?" as a sort of name for making/embellishing stuff?
Or maybe "By DD's Mum"

As I may be embellishing clothes already made with washing instructions I feel I need to mention handwash somehow

Making dance clothes, costumes and embellishing bought clothes
Crystals, applique etc

I don't like the words "Dance Wear" etc or sewn by

"made pretty by"

"Embellished by"

"Decorated by"

"Improved by"

"Improved by KatyMac" & "Suggest hand washing" / "Wash carefully"

"Amended by KatyMac" & "Prefers handwashing"

"Tweaked by KatyMac"

"Enhanced by KatyMac"

So as you see I got precisely no-where - I thought I'd put it in Start-ups too as it's their sort of thing....

HELP!!

Thanks

Any thoughts to a logo I did wonder if I could get a sketch of the swan some how - hang on I've had a thought

How about just "...For You by Katy Mac" then you could add handmade, embellished, repaired, altered as appropriate depending on what you've done.

Add a label over/next to the existing one that says "hand wash with care"

Made with love by Katymac?

I thought I could get a sketch on FB but it didn't work

I'd need lots of labels then Soupy - I was going to use these
"for you by Katymac"
"Handwash with care"
"handmade"
"embellished"
"changed" instead of repaired or altered?

Pack of 100 Transfers £11.95 so the first two would need this
Pack of 50 Transfers £8.95 the other 3 these

So total outlay would be £50 - that's not too bad I guess - 7 hours work - no!! it would be double that as I'd need black & white - bugger!!

You can make your own by printing onto iron on transfer paper and ironing that onto something like fabric tape.

I was actually thinking of calling the business For You and then maybe a cardboard tag with the handmade/embellished/whatever written on as appropriate. Just thinking out loud really!

Oo oo oo I like that!!

I can do that

Plus I like the iron on transfer paper thingy too (I have some)

Btw I have been playing with some logos - it's a good job I can sew as I really can't draw

The image is gorgeous. I prefer the first font; I think it's easier to read and DD agrees.

It's hard isn't it?

DD prefers the other one so I am wavering (I like the first one too - but she says it's a bit generic) Hmm

I do hope I am doing the right thing

Halo :)

I prefer the second font but I think it needs to be larger to make it more legible.

Struggling a bit as the by Katymac needs to be below the descriptions & then there isn't room for the tel/email/fb addresses

The bit that looks like her bum is a fold of the skirt in a different colour - hmm I may have to edit that!!
