I love modern prints, and particularly House of Hackney, but it's £££. I want to make a big headboard and probably need two or three metres but that'll be £150-£225 and I'd like to find something cheaper!

Or does anyone want to help me find an amazing fabric?

My walls are off white grey time and I plan on having grey/white bedding. Was thinking of blue/greys for the headboard...

Abakhan? All the better if you can get to a branch to look at what they've got...

If you can get to Lancaster on the train, Standfast & Barracks has a fabulous factory shop - about £8-10 a meter. Much of it is quite chintzy - it prints Sanderson and Liberty fabric among others but there's some great stuff in it. Zero web presence - but there's a Facebook page...

Great tips thank you!

I've been looking at Liberty prints. Would cotton be ok? The 'furnishing' fabrics are super expensive!

If you're after Liberty, Shaukat are worth looking at, OP. But yes, as auntpodder says, there are lots of great fabric discount shops if you're within reach of t'North!

I live in London so northern shops a bit far but I do sometimes travel north of Watford grin

If you plan ahead, you can often get cheap tickets to Lancaster on Virgin (£20 return has been my best price) - the factory is pretty close to the station (five min taxi). It also has Designers Guild and lots of posh American designers I haven't heard of. I'd say furnishing fabric would be better than standard fabric - as in much more hard wearing.

Do they have normal Saturday opening hours? I have a friend that lives within an hour of it so could combine a visit smile
