removing paper edges from fabric samples

I've been lucky enough to stumble on some gorgeous fabric sample books in my local scrap store. But they have paper edging glued to the back. Is there an easy way to remove this other than cutting the strip off to make the fabric piece smaller? Some of the squares have a lovely image on which would be spoiled by cutting the bottom strip off.

Wash it. In warm soapy water. If that doesn't remove it, try soaking it in white vinegar for half an hour. Then wash again.

Lovely. Will try that thanks. I've plenty that if it doesn't work I'm not going no to lose sleep. But it would be nice to maximise the pieces.
