Father's Day craft

Need some ideas for dc to make for dh for Father's Day. They are primary school age, can knit, but only simple rectangles, and slowly! They also use my sewing machine (under supervision). Previous things which have gone down well are - boxes to keep change in, silhouettes, handprint stuff when they were much younger. He likes music, sport, reads when he gets the chance. Music is his main passion.

Have you looked on Pinterest for ideas? It's great decorated mug as a start.

I have, but it seems to be so many ties etc, or stuff that younger children can make, they want something beyond handprints etc. He can't wear ties generally at work due to safety and isn't a tie type person! We have lots of mugs. I was wondering about something music related. Or some sort of keyring, but would need to be fairly sturdy to withstand his pockets!

Ha! I was just looking at all the ties thinking exactly the same thing - DH never wears a tie. Could they make him a keyring out of saltdough? Or compose him a tune and record it? Or if they can knit and sew, maybe some Father's Day bunting with musical notes in it?

Composing a tune could be a good idea - the two older ones play. Could laminate something. Could get them to write a poem each maybe. Not sure that he is a bunting type man! Wouldn't saltdough make a mess if when he gets it wet? I could see if we could get some leather straps and weave something from that. They really want to do sewing, but I can't see anything that I think he would like or use, other than maybe a screen cleaner, not sure if that is a bit naff. He is a nightmare to buy for, even worse to make for!

What about sewing a travel case for CDs or an iPod case?

If he likes reading does he have a kindle? If so, could your DC sew him a slip case for it?
