So I don't have to iron them back into skirts I've made when they're washed?

Well you always have to iron pleats back in don't you? I assume the pleated skirts I buy are the same as the ones you're making....ie tucked into the fabric. They do come out a little in the wash and require putting back again so they're sharp.

If the fold is completely coming out in the wash, then the fabric's not the right sort for holding them.

ah, I thought there might be a way of making them permanent. Thanks anyway smile

Years ago I remember you used to be able to send your fabric off somewhere to be permanently pleated...I have no idea where it was sent or how much it cost.

F Ciments did some for one of the girls on my degree course, iirc they are somewhere in Potters Bar.

If the question is, how to make pleats from scratch so they are permanent, try pin tucks.

I confirm what Dawntigga says.
F. Ciments were great when I wanted sun ray pleats on my daughters prom dress. Not expensive either.
