Anyone help me figure out my quilt idea?

I want to make a quilt using the mod symbol link here
My plan is to make circular templates and then cut them into quarters. I wold stitch together a quarter at a time and then stitch 4 small squares together to make one block. Is this the best way do you think?
I plan to make about 9 blocks and stitch them with a border between them. I am going to use different reds and blues so it is more interesting. But I need a fourth colour for my blacks (for the straight sides) I am thinking of light sponged or marbled grey. Any other ideas?

I wonder if to make things simpler you could applique the symbol onto the required block size?

For the sashing between the blocks I think a marbled dove grey could look effective.

Grey is a good idea, maybe with a speckled pattern or similar?

If you cut a circle out of fabric and then quarter it and sew it together again, it might end up not quite circular, as you'd lose a bit of fabric to your seam allowance. It may or may not be noticable, I don't know.

I suspect the bias would make it difficult too, particularly over a quarter of a circle - the two ends of the block would be with the warp / weft grain, but the middle of the block would be on the bias, so it might distort and flare out a bit.

You could try making the circles out of curved blocks like This

I think you are brave to try patchwork with circles, it's always going to be tricky because of the bias. I've only ever done straight lines, myself!

Found a nice tutorial that could give the look you want.

Thank you both for your advice.

My fabric wouldn't be cut in circles, just my templates, so hopefully the sizing would be okay. But I hadn't considered the fabric pulling and distorting so I'll need to watch out for that.

Got some nice grey fabric today so off to look at those links. thanks again Thanks
