I have my great-grandmother's Singer treadle sewing machine, which worked really well for many years.
Until I can get enough money to have it checked and mended it is being used as our PC desk!!

In fact I am sat at it now, I love it!! So many happy memories. smile

Not unless they can prize the keys out of my df's hands lol. Lonnnnnng back story, and very complicated. It has a caveat on it, so it's fun, fun, fun! No will, house was my df's, but assigned it to uncle on the promise he'd leave it to me and db.....NOT shakes fist at silly bugger

Great house though. Location, size, but a bit shabby in places. Although, it's been redecorated in places thanks to my df.

Longdistance is your uncle's house in the UK? If so the council can take it over, do it up and rent it out when it has been empty for six months under the Housing Act 2004.

I tend to just take a photo and upload it to something like Picasa Web albums/Flikr, then link to it. There is an "arts and crafts" topic where you can upload pictures to a thread though.

envy but glad for you, I love old machines, so much better than the newer plastic rubbish

cheesecheeseplease Thu 04-Apr-13 10:45:00

how do I post pics soupy? and it works!

SoupDragon Thu 04-Apr-13 10:25:37

First you must post pictures!

cece Thu 04-Apr-13 10:18:18

Yes, if dry, plug it in and try it.

rockinhippy Thu 04-Apr-13 10:00:23

Make sure its dry first & give the plug & electrics a check, but do long as its not wet, yes that's a good start

cheesecheeseplease Thu 04-Apr-13 09:45:34

I've got it! now what do I do with it? do I plug it in and try?

rockinhippy Thu 04-Apr-13 09:41:04

Just take it - quick, before someone else does -

Yes its good manners to ask, but no one is going to sue/arrest you for taking what is now rubbish to be thrown out & no one else will ask, but will take it

scurryfunge Thu 04-Apr-13 09:40:09

grin at Tethersend

SoupDragon Thu 04-Apr-13 09:37:34

I would be tempted to take it now and let them know.

cheesecheeseplease Thu 04-Apr-13 09:34:55

I tried cece but the house is empty I shall put a note through the door

cece Thu 04-Apr-13 09:32:46

Yes go and get it but ask the person who 'owns' the skip first. I used to hoik all sorts of stuff out of skips to sell on eBay. Always aske first though.

cheesecheeseplease Thu 04-Apr-13 09:31:14

right it's an electric singer in a dark wood table says 99k underneath the badge at the front

JollyPurpleGiant Thu 04-Apr-13 08:48:38

Go! I'm very jealous!

TheOneWithTheHair Thu 04-Apr-13 08:47:52

Oh. Go and get it. The longer you wait te more chance you'll miss it!

Longdistance Thu 04-Apr-13 08:45:24

My deceased uncles old house has a manual Singer sewing machine with the foot pedal in its own cabinet. Is it worth something, or do people like them for vintage value?

House can't be sold as its interstate, or something like that, so been as there empty since 2007.

cheesecheeseplease Thu 04-Apr-13 08:36:57

AgiantShortie Thu 04-Apr-13 07:54:34

SoupDragon Thu 04-Apr-13 07:52:21
