crochet bag

hi I am making a bag from Nicki Trench cute and easy crochet (ha Ha). I have made the outside which is 3 squares by 3 with sides and a bottom and the pattern told me to leave one side of bag open which I did.

I have now made a lining out of fabric and I will put it inside the crochet outer and sew it in place. Do I sew up the side seam of the crochet outer first or do I attach the lining and then join up the final seam of the bag. it is really unclear and I don't want to insert lining if I should have sewn up side first IYSWIM.

any thoughts gratefully received.

I think what you need to do is to insert the lining first. I'd sewn the top of the lining to the top of the bag so that when it's the right way round you have no seams showing. once that is done you can sew up the outside seam of your bag.

I'm failing to imagine the bag in my head although that's not saying much, i'm hardly a pro I would however say the lining goes in first as there must be some reason for having left the one side open - No?

yes I think insert lining and sew that in first, then join the last seam of the bag. If you join the bag up first, you can only attach the lining at the top, can't you...whereas if you sew it in to the open bag, you can attach it to the sides and the top. Am i making sense?!
I have this book but haven't made the bag yet, so am no expert, but that is how I would do it!

thanks will have a go. that does make sense. i just couldn't see anymore mention of the final seam in the instructions.
