A few of us fancy doing a few squares for this, so here's a thread!

As blankets need to be 4x6 squares (24 total), the idea is that we arrange ourselves into small groups by geography and do a few each, then meet to put them together and eat cake

I'll link the previous Location thread shortly so folk can add themselves and get organising thanks

How could you suggest such a ting? shock wink grin

I coud probably put together a crocheted one or two for the unsociable gits shy ones grin

PurplePidjin Fri 14-Sep-12 08:33:18

Soupy and I will be hooking angry

We need more recruits, too. Anyone fancy crusading across Chat?

tribpot Fri 14-Sep-12 08:35:07

Lordy - I've committed a yarn craft faux pas of the highest order, haven't I?? wink

I do like the sheeniness of the Smoothie, but will check with my previous blanket recipients to see if they've had problems washing it.

PurplePidjin Fri 14-Sep-12 09:06:36

Anything man made will be fine at 40 smile

BarbaraWoodlouse Fri 14-Sep-12 10:48:15

I'll join in - just give me very very simple instructions on pattern and yarn.

I'm probably safer knitting but could attempt a wobbly granny if required.

SoupDragon Fri 14-Sep-12 11:34:20

I washed my stiff baby blanket made of Smoothie and then tumble dried it. It survived and softened up nicely smile

tribpot Fri 14-Sep-12 13:26:44

Barbara - for the time being, I'll assume you're in with me and Shredded, I'm just waiting to hear if she's happy with the yarn suggestions.

PurplePidjin Fri 14-Sep-12 13:50:20

If anyone has leftover Woolly Hug yarn

Barbara, wobbly crochet is fine and I'm always around for questions if you get stuck smile

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 14-Sep-12 15:22:28

I'd like to contribute, it would be crochet, I need to read your instructions.

PurplePidjin Fri 14-Sep-12 18:21:02

Pistey, we're due a coffee so I'll talk you through it if you like?

Soupy, you, me + 1 other = 6 squares each to make a crochet blanket. How do people feel about that?

I'm happy with the suggestions trib - either is fine with me <indecisive>. I may be able to get someone to bring some wool with them when they visit in a a couple of weeks if I can't get it here.

OK, let's do the two colour lime and cream you suggested <decisive>. I will order a couple of balls of each to be going on with in case it's just the two of us smile

PS, keep forgetting to mention Deramores discount code 15WEEK until midnight on 18 September smile

Somersaults Fri 14-Sep-12 19:30:01

I'll be the other crocheter smile

PurplePidjin Fri 14-Sep-12 19:39:47

Team Hooker - colours tbc
Soupy (c)

Team Knitter - lime green and cream
Oma (c)

Plenty of room for more on both teams smile

Anyone going to do teddies? I once invented a pattern for a Tiny Teddy crocheted all in one go using popcorn stitches for ears/nose/arms/legs. I could post it if needed?

tribpot Fri 14-Sep-12 19:48:55

Shredded - what's easier for you, I don't know if you'll end up having to pay for UK postage if you order online? I should say, Deramores also has a 20% discount on Rowan at the mo as well. But their cheapest DK is a 100% cotton - although this'd be a great yarn for the mini-hugs, for these Refuge blankets, I think something that can be washed and dried quickly would be better.

So, do you want to see what you can get locally and we'll go from there? Alternatively, I'm happy to do a Deramores (or similar) order for all of us so it qualifies for the free postage, and then post your balls (so to speak) on to you.

If Somersaults is crocheting, does that mean we've won Barbara back to Team Knit?

BarbaraWoodlouse Fri 14-Sep-12 19:56:14

I'm happy on Team Knit Trib. If you're happy to have me. I'm a plain and essential gal but will try to keep up with you all. smile

PurplePidjin Fri 14-Sep-12 20:06:37

Shredded, do you have a Walmart near you? Or Jo-Ann?

PurplePidjin Fri 14-Sep-12 20:07:21

Southern meet up thread smile

Somersaults Fri 14-Sep-12 20:12:33

High five Team Hooker! Colours? Yarns? Yay!

(it's Friday night and I'm home with a baby asleep in bed, a husband at the pub, and two weeks worth of recorded TV to catch up on at my disposal so I'm a little bit giddy tonight!)

PurplePidjin Fri 14-Sep-12 20:17:36

I have a load of a lovely dusky rose sitting in my stash going spare, we could go Girlie?

Somersaults Fri 14-Sep-12 20:18:53

I like girlie. What kind of yarn is it?

PurplePidjin Fri 14-Sep-12 20:29:00

Cheap n cheerful i can't remember

Somersaults Fri 14-Sep-12 20:37:09

Do we need to all use the same yarn though? Or does it not matter that much? I'm possibly doing a deramores order tonight so I can order some appropriate stuff if I know what I'm looking for.

SoupDragon Fri 14-Sep-12 20:54:47

I probably have some Stylecraft in girlie colours
