I've just inherited an old singer, but am having trouble with the bobbin. I've found a site where I can download instructions but I don't know what model I've got. Please could someone tell me how to find out what model it is?

Your machine will have a serial number on it... if not on the top/side then it will be underneath the machine... if you cannot find it, post a pic on your profile and the MN sewing detectives will help you :)

Woo Hoo! You have a classic...but I cannot see the number in the first pic... that will tell us how old your machine is... I am assuming that this might be a hand Singer... I have one which is 90 years old. :) Can we have the number? It is so easy from there!

I've sussed it! it was a bent needle Blush nothing to do with the bobbin at all.
I found out it's from the EK range, so found the booklet for it.
So, after a very slow and painful start I'm now actually sewing.
It's an electric one btw, DP's mum kept her old hand one as she doesn't hold with new-fangled tech Grin
thank you for your replies Smile
