An easy peasy sewing tutorial

I have had a number of requests for an simple sewing tutorial for people who are just getting to grips with their sewing machine, so here is a really easy one for a handbag tissue pack holder.

Just found this. That's nice (and easy looking). My old sewing machine has been languishing in the attic but since dd did a couple of sewing courses , she wants me to sort it out. I'll have a go with this and see if the sewing machine is still usable. Might need to be replaced.

not sure about that turotial - looks okay generally, but I was always taugth that you put the pins in perpendicular to the sewing line, so that you can sew straight over them, rather than she has putting them in line with the sewing line.

Nicklebabe - Pins in the perpendicular work well when you are working around a curve or easing a fuller piece of fabric to a structured piece eg, setting in sleeves. However, for a novice sewer at whom this tutorial is aimed, it is easier to pin in the direction in which you are sewing and it is easier for them remove the pins as they are working.

Unfortunately, you can still break your machine needle when you are sewing with pins in the perpendicular as they will still hit the shaft of the pin... which can be somewhat disconcerting when you setting in the sleeves of a wedding dress!

i can see the point, but I would be worrid that the pins would be placed too close to the needle and they would end up ripping the fabric (not looking at anyone in particular! )

agree about the breaking of the shaft.
I don't use pins at all where I can help it :)
(i know that last sentence isn't much help to a beginner)
