Can anyone help me to understand this crochet pattern please.

I like the idea of it because it has a flower inside. I guess the abbreviations are in American, so that is a bit confusing. The pattern does not look that difficult (judging from the picture) but I find it hard to understand the instructions.
My understanding:
1st round: ch 5, join with slip stitch (ss)
2nd round: (they say ch1 and then tr cl). I understand that I have to double treble crochet three times, join by drawing yarn through the 1st loop, ch1; repeat 11 times.

As far as I know double crochet (american single crochet) - only 1 yo.
Double treble crochet (american treble crochet) - yo 3 times

Really like this motif but please someone simplify the instructions for me, in English crochet if possible. Many many thanks!

Hope I can help.

Firstly a uk double is a us single crochet has no yarn overs. You insert your hook into stitch and pull a loop through, then wrap yarn over and pull through both through both loops on hook.

A uk Double treble is a us treble and has 2 yarn overs. You wrap your yarn twice round hook and then insert into stitch and pull a loop through, pull your loop through two loops then yarn over again and pull through another two loops until there is only one loop left on hook.

As for the clusters, when you work the stitch you do not complete the last part of the stitch, you need to leave those loops on the hook, when you come to the last step of the last stitch in the cluster, you pull the yarn through all the loops on your hook, this gives the petals its pointy shape. I know that probably sounds more confusing but I hoped it helped.

I will now translate it into English terms and post it in a minute.

Beginning DOUBLE TREBLE cluster : Ch 3, holding back last lp of each DOUBLE TREBLE on hook, work 2 DOUBLE TREBLE in same place as ch 3, yo, draw through all 3 lps on hook.
DOUBLE TREBLE CLUSTER : Holding back last lp of each DOUBLE TREBLE on hook, work 3 DOUBLE TREBLE in place indicated, yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook.

chain 5 and join to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 12 DOUBLE CROCHET into ring, join with slip stitch into first DOUBLE CROCHET made. (12 DOUBLE CROCHET)

I am a bit confused with this "Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 12 sc in ring, join in beg sc.". I do not understand why do I need to start with Ch1 and then add 12 sc into the ring. Usually, when I start crocheting a flower I do not add extra ch.

As I understand the above given by me link (op) comes from American source. It means that if they say to use single crochet (sc) I have to do double crochet (dc) because they are equal. Am I correct?

Some patterns ch 1 to get you away from the previous row. I often do it just so it's easier to tell where the row started

Glad that you managed and hope it comes out good for you. I learnt myself to crochet in Feb and often spent ages figuring stitches out, its so simple once you know what you are doing.

Thank you cloudpuff. I also started crocheting in February! but I have not done much because of other things. I always wanted to learn how to crochet a heart and thought this one has a really interesting motif. Have not got a project really involving a heart. I am crocheting a pillow case using African flower hexagons. It does not take long to crochet one hexagon but then there are always destructions. I hope to finish it soon.

The African Flower hexagons are something I plan to try too, I fancy making a blanket out of them but I'll probably get fed up and make a cushion cover too.

Soup, why dont you try putting your apple through the washing machine? you never know it may wash out. I am also going to make a keyring for a teacher, hopefully I'll get one done this evening. I did want to make one for the classroom assistants too but I seriously doubt I'll have the time. I'm off to Salou on Tuesday and have so much to do.

Your key rings are lovely SoupDragon! I do not think I would have the patience to do something similar.

I think I am confusing double crochet with another stitch.
I always thought (I learned mine way of double-crochet from crocheting African flower on one website) that double crochet is: chain 2 or three, yo, insert hook into the next loop of the chain, pull the yarn through, yo and pull through the two loops on the hook, yo and pull through the remaining two loops. That is what I did and it looks wrong.

I would imagine they'd take less than half an hour each to make. I took longer because I had to learn the hwole increasing/decreasing thing and was mentally translating from American. I think it's a very forgiving pattern though - if I got it wrong it doesn't show and I know I did the leaves slightly wrong.

I just need to attach gift tags, get DS2 and DD to write on the tag and I'm done.

Now, more hearts, more blanket or google for something random...?

My tiny teddies take about half an hour, although I first learned to crochet aged 6 or 7 over two decades ago so I'm relatively quick!

I'm currently working on procrastinating the edging of the final MumsNet blanket (for which raffle tickets will be available sometime in September so no rush!), and getting frustrated with the amount of time it takes to make a toddler-sized jumper... I think I'll turn that one into a pattern and make them out of fleece in future!

Colour - the stitch you have just described is a uk treble/us double. Its sounds as though you have worked a US double

For a uk double crochet (which is a us single) you need to put your hook where the patterns states, yarn over and pull through loop, now you should have two loops on your hook, wrap the yarn over and pull though both loops to complete the stitch.

The uk/us stitch names can be very confusing.

I think "freestyle" covers what I did... I had the sense not to put the popcorn snout under his ear which it was where it would have been if id followed the pattern... Counting stitches clearly isn't my strong point! One arm is smaller than the other too and the rainbow wool hadn't helped (it was my only ball of scrap wool)

Cloudpuff, thank you for clarifying the description of my pattern. English/American are indeed confusing. Why cannot we use the same crochet language?
I have never heard of Super Mario. Where did you get the patterns from? The pictures do not look easy to crochet.
I have an account with Ravelry but I am not using it.
I think I would manage a small blanket from African Flower hexagons but I do not think it is going to be comfy because you have to put all those hexagons together, lots of sewing and edges.

SoupDragon, the teddy is cute but I would loose the count of stitches with rainbow wool. I think if you add black eyes, nose and mouth the bear will look more distinguished.
