Sewing machine chewing up thread?

PukeyRag · 04/06/2011 08:47

I love sewing but know nothing about machines (not a technical person!), this is my second one and haven't had one for years, every time I try to sew it just chews all the thread up on one spot and I have to cut it all out of the mechanism! I vaguely recall my old machine doing the same occasionally but can't for the life of me remember how I fixed it! What's happening and how can I put it right?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Is the spool in the right way?

Take out bobbin. Take off top spool of cotton. Blow any dust away. Rethread. My books says.....

bobbin wound incorrectly

bobbin scratched

Clean the bobbin case

incorrect bobbin for machine.

Reset the bobbin.....

Sounds like a bobbin problem to me Grin

You might need to remove and clean the bobbin race Eg. the bit the bobbin sits in. Have you got the manual?

Yeah I thought it might be a bobbin problem, I don't have the manual unfortunately but will have a play and see if I can sort it, fingers crossed I don't make it worse! Thanks, and wish me luck! Grin

Are you lowering the foot before you try to sew?
