Hand knitted baby clothes

Hello,

This is an odd request, I was wondering how I might find someone to knit my baby some clothes when he is born in April.

I love hand knitted clothing and I would love to be able to find a pattern in a knitting mag and buy some lovely luxury wool and have someone knit something really special for my new arrival (I would pay of course and would find materials required)(or donate to a charity that they may support)

I would like a skilled knitter (not asking for much) I know that the hospital shop at QCH in W6 have some pre knitted babies wear, but I guess I'm reluctant to ask in case I hurt their feelings (implying their knitwear on sale isn't quite what I'm after)

I don't have a grandma, or anyone else I know that can knit.

Thanks in advance if you can point me in the right direction to someone good with knitting needles and wool xx

Out local haberdasher's has a lady who knits things up to order.

I have also bought a lot of hand knitted stuff from Ebay - there are folk who knit just to sell on Ebay - and I am sure that some of them advertised that they would make stuff to order.

You might like this site too.

I am sure that the ladies in your hospital would not be offended if you asked them to do something special for you though.

Would it be worth asking in a local residential home? There might be someone there who is a keen knitter who would like to knit for 'someone' rather than just for a coffee morning, bring and buy sale etc.

Could also be worth asking at a local church, or as bikerunski has said asking at a local haberdashery shop, they might know of someone - they might even have a small ads board.

Also, I know they do other things, but how about the WI or its more urban version the TWG (townswomen's guild)?

Have just finished a couple of Debbie Bliss bits for a chum and am doing a Sublime cardie and hat in Merino and cashmere for a friend who is due in Feb plus a hat an scarf for a one year old who needs his name on his hat (in case mum forgets his name!)

Hi - thanks for the thought. I do get wool left at the end of a garment. I will try making it up to very small sizes and donate it.

There are lots of knitters on sites like www.etsy.com and www.folksy.com too

They have their own shops with things in ready to buy, worth a looksee.

I have recently had some clothes knitted by Jacqui at Jan Wood Handknits based in South Wales. Very impressed with the quality of the clothing. They were all knitted in a machine washable blend of natural wools, merino wool, silk and cashmere. Would thoroughly recommend them to anyone.
