Hi, I have just found out that I am pregnant and my doctor tells me I have to decide quickly where to have the baby. My options are St Mary's Hospital in Paddington or Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital in Hammersmith. Has anyone had a positive/negative experience at either? Thanks a lot for your help...

Was booked in for st. mary under Mister Teoh. Great doctor and excellent care. I chose St. Mary's as I was private and portland didn't have the NHS emergency facilities that St. Mary's offers. There's a reason why Princess Di gave birth there.

I used to work at St Mary's on the maternity wards doing Hearing Screening.
I worked on both Josephine Barnes NHS post-natal & Lindo Wing (private wing).
As with almost all hospitals, the NHS postnatal care is never as good as the antenatal care due to the lack of staff, but I never had any parents complain about the care they recieved on the labour wards.
I worked closely with the midwives on both the NHS and private wings and they had some of the best midwives I have ever met (I also worked at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in Fulham).
I left my job in 2006 to have my own children (born in my local hospital in Kent) and unfortunately did not keep in contact with the maternity staff at St Mary's. Although am still in regular contact with the newborn hearing screening service (very lovely group of ladies).
Where did you opt to go in the end?
