Hi. I'm 41 and a lerger lady! having a miracle baby and at 12w scan NT was high. Got appt tomorrow with FMU to get blood tests but my main worry is amino. I'm terrified of needles. I can fo a blood test as I just don't look but the thought of that long needle is making me panic.

I know the risk of miscarriage is 1:200 but have people had it and been ok? My husband wants to fo all testing and think he would go for termination with positive Downs result but I don't think i can terminate as Downs is not life threatening in most cases.

I just don't know what to do

I had a cvs last week and it wasn’t at all bad and miscarriage risk is very low. You are lay flat and you don’t see it. They hold your hand all the way through and it’s over before you know it. You have to find out what’s going on with that NT

Good luck Hun

Hi I'm so sorry for you results and I do hope everything comes back okay! Or that you and DH can come to a decision.
I've had the amnio and was so frightened. I was offered it on the day, so didn't have much time to think about it. Which I guess may be better. It didn't hurt much at all just a small scratch. I shut my eyes and didn't look at the needed or screen. They make sure they're checking where baby is at all times too. The risk of MC is worrying, but once I left hospital I was completely fine with 0 symptoms. Didn't even feel bruised. All the best for tomorrow. 🙏🙏

Hi @welshmercury, I'm sorry you're going through this worry. Did you get a high risk for downs back from your NHS combined test?
There is always the option to do a Harmony Test beforehand, this is private and costs around £400 and can be done from 10 weeks, for the Amnio you need to be 15. However, this is NOT diagnostic and not very accurate for T13/T18, it's more of a T21 test but they just take blood from you and test the fetal DNA.
It's a very difficult and personal decision on what to do once you have a diagnosis. Fingers crossed it all works out for you!

Thanks everyone. Went today and my bloods for combined weren’t back. They took the blood on Thursday but missed the cut off time as running so behind. I’m raging now.
Consultant seemed quite happy to do CVS without waiting on results of combined. I was like whoa hold your horses.

DH would like to terminate if Down’s. I’m not sure yet. Luckily we can get harmony on nhs in my area if combined comes back high result so they took bloods for that.

Now just waiting for a phone call. The midwife was chasing all morning bless her as consultant only in on Mondays

Feel in limbo. As all been said is I’m high risk. But 1:4 still means 3 babies are fine. I could terminate a healthy baby.

Literally can’t cope

So had results of combined test and came back as 1:2 for downs and 1:17 for patau. Bloods for harmony have now gone off

Sorry that you’re going through this. I’ve been there and it’s horrible.

There’s a charity called Arc who have a helpline you can ring if you’re in this situation. They can talk you through all your options and discuss the difference in your and your DH’s opinions.
