Waiting (impatiently for Harmony test results)

Hello there ladies

I know this is a contentious subject (judging by some of the other posts on here!) but I was wondering if anyone was waiting for their harmony results at the moment?

I had my test done on Wednesday after finding out my result was a 1 in 47 chance. I am slightly older (at nearly 38) so know this will have some bearing.

My NT was 2.4 which at the time I was told was 'normal' but have since found out it's a little on the high side.

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else was going through the same thing right now? The email checking is during me mad and I am finding it hard to concentrate on anything else.

I was also wondering, do the only call if the result is high risk or do they email in both situations? I didn't have the best experience with the clinic I was at so didn't ask this at the time.

Thanks, Emma

Hi. So sorry you are going through this, I was 1 in 45 a month or so back and I know how stressful the wait is. Mine was through the hospital and I got a call within a week to give me my low risk results. I am 34 and was told that my high risk was my age and very low papp-a and my NT measurement was 1.8 (so I believe they was normal)

I am sure everything will be fine for you too and the odds are massively in your favour.

Hi Emma,

I'm sorry you're going through this - the wait was one of the longest weeks of my life!

I had the NIPT test done after also getting a high risk for Down syndrome as a result of a low Papp A, high HCG and my age (33). My risk was 1:61.

I had my NIPt done privately (via babybond clinic) and received a low risk result back by email after 6 days. I was told to expect a phone call if it came back high risk but if it was low risk then I would only get an email. I then communicated these results to my midwife, consultant and the NHS midwife screening service so they were aware.

Sending lots of positive wishes your way! X

Hi OP. I am not currently waiting for test results but i had a panorama test done privately in 2017. My hospital said that i had a 1 in 7 chance of having a child with DS and offered me an amnio so i took a panorama test at a private hospital instead. They contacted me by phone about 5 days later with the results and then dropped the paperwork in the post . I am sure they would have contacted me as soon as they got the results back regardless of what the result was. Good luck OP, i hope you get good news. Try not to worry....Flowers

Thanks so much for replying, its agony waiting for the results isn't it? Not sure I have ever felt so uneasy.

I went to a private clinic called ROC, they were quite rude and not very sensitive so I left feeling worse than when I went in!

They have said 5 working days (which I know is not long) but feels like a lifetime!

Really pleased things worked out well for you. When are you due?

I had a 1 in 13 chance before Christmas. Opted for NIPT and it came back as 'highly unlikely' two weeks later. The wait was absolute torture. My age (40 at EDD) plus slightly low papp a and slightly high hcg was the reason. My NT was 2.5mm at 13 wks plus 3 days (corrected to 1.37). I was told this was this low. Good luck xxx

I remember having the Harmony Test back in 2013. It was relatively new back then! I remember the waiting was tense but everything came back well.

My DC is 6 now! Smile

Flowers sending reassuring vibes

Good luck @Emmajayne18 I hope you get the reassurance you’re looking for. If you get a low risk result, this is very robust and hopefully will bring peace of mind.

I know I’ve posted a few things about NIPT in terms of awareness but doesn’t sound like any of that really applies to you given your stage of pregnancy and what you describe - as long as you’re aware it isn’t diagnostic and there may be false positives which can cause anxiety.

The test is basically suited to Downs (I’m not sure if that is the Trisomy you’re high risk for?). If Edwards or Pataus or any other condition, the test is even more likely to give false positives (as in only about 30-40% accuracy). This can be misleading as some people interpret the predictive value as being 99% accurate, which can understandably cause distress.

Thinking of you! Keep us updated xx

Hey,
I didn't want to read and run... I know the wait is agony, even without a previous 'high risk' on the NHS test. I got an email in my previous pregnancy where the results came back fine and I got a call when it was bad news this time. The same day I had a call from the screening midwife telling me about the 1/40 on the combined test. We were referred for a CVS which also came back positive for T21 - combined with physical abnormalities it wasn't a good outcome for us. Any wait is terrible, but there's a huge chance that your results will come low risk/highly unlikely and I've got everything crossed for you!!

Hi @SarahD19 - thanks for your reply. I have read your previous posts and appreciate your warnings about the false-positive rate. I actually hadn’t realised that before I read your posts so that was useful to know.

My high risk result was for DS but I am also getting the other two included in my Harmony test. If we do get a high result we may get the Amnio but I think as it stands we would carry on regardless so not even sure about this - one step at a time. I am 15 weeks almost so it won’t be long to wait at least.

NocallerID - I am so sorry to hear what a tough time you have been through, that sounds very traumatic and I appreciate your good wishes.

Will keep you all posted. X

@Emmajayne18 the timing and use of the test sounds ideal in many respects - although obviously the wait will be really hard. As many posters have said, the odds are in your favour and keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I know looking back on my circumstances, even having the gap from NHS screening and having gone through CVS as well, my takeaway from it all for me is in the event of any screening test in future, I wouldn’t bother with CVS and would have amniocentesis. This makes me very cautious about early screening. I think it is good that you wouldn’t have a wait to do amniocentesis.

Everyone’s circumstances are different and screening/diagnostics are so complicated. It is such a double edged sword as I am grateful we have screening and healthcare, but at the same time, am aware how limited our understanding of the science is - and incomplete knowledge/uncertainty can be very anxiety-provoking when it is about your baby.

@NoCallerID you are very much in my thoughts. Hope you have support at this time xx

I’m having bloods taken for SAFE NIPT tomorrow after being told on friday that I’m high risk for DS (1:117). NT at 12 wk scan was normal (1.9mm) and all looked good so think it’s a combo of age (35, will be 36 on due date) and hormones.

Hello, thanks for your message.
I got my results after about 6 days - all clear so a huge relief.
I am now 21 weeks pregnant.
It was a difficult time but I would certainly recommend the test to anyone wanting a bit more certainty.

I’m so sorry to hear that 😔 Did they give you the odds or just said that it’s high ?
I’m not sure whether cvs is safer than amino but i have read that false positives do happen so fingers crossed that’s the case with your result. Best wishes for you and your baba xx

No odds just high
Iv spoken to the midwife and they can be wrong... I’m so worried about the cvs booked for tomorrow
Consultant says the risks are the same but midwife said it’s
1-2 % risk with cvs ans 0.5 % risk with amino so I’m still at a loss what to do for the best...
can’t have amino till 16 weeks
😪
Thank you for your kind message

@Mylove19
Hi,
I have just found this thread as I’m in the same situation and the waiting is horrible.
I wasn’t able to have the combined test at 12 weeks as the baby was in the wrong position so opted for the quad test in 4 weeks time which was apparently less reliable, about 75- 80% and only tested for Down syndrome.
After we had failed to be able to have the combined test the midwife suggested there was a SAFE test not on the NHS and was about £500 but she said I can’t imagine you’ll be high risk it’s only if you’re really worried! That put me at ease and I just opted for the quad test.
We had a call about a week later saying we had tested high 1 in 30 chance which was a total shock and devastating.
We opted for the safe test which is apparently 99% accurate and non invasive, it did cost us £400 but we didn’t want to risk the invasive test.
Had the news last Monday and went for the test Tuesday night. I was told the post is slow at the moment but once they get it (hopefully Thirsday just gone) it’ll be 5 working days. Hoping for a result this Friday at the latest. They said they would call either way.
One minute I’m on the hopefull side and the next I feel like it’s all over.
We had ivf and I am 34 so I’m hoping my age is a factor and have read ivf medication can alter the results slightly though the midwifes didn’t seem to know anything about that.
Have either of you heard anything yet? I’m just hoping for some positive stories.
A friend sent me some info about babies with DS hoping that if I read this before I got the results it would make me feel more positive if he worst was to happen.
Unfortunately the story I read was someone in exactly the same circumstances as me and had a better chance than I did on the quad test and it still turned out they were affected which has made me more nervous!
The wait is awful.

I’m 36, 14 weeks pregnant, live in Wales.
The combined test came back 1:4883 for trisomy 21 but 1:19 for trisomy 18. NT was 1.4.
Had the NIPT test last week it’s available on nhs for high risk results from combined test and currently awaiting result. It’s been 5 days now.
the anxiety is unbelievable x

HI
I’m sorry your also going through this, it’s a horrible situation to be in.
I’m 38 and my first test cane back 1/18 chance of baby having DS
I have had the cvs done on thursday which also was a hard decision to make they have told me that I have a high likely chance considering the two tests that I have already had, that my baby has DS and the cvs will confirm, we have a lot to think about and it’s completely heartbreaking... everyone’s circumstances are different to the decision you have to make in these circumstanc
I have a 1% chance that the Harmony test was wrong but im not hopeful for my story.
Your outcome could Be completely different to mine, is this your first baby?
I wish you all the best x

@NoCallerID I’m really sorry to hear your results were not the outcome you hoped for. Sadly we chose to end our pregnancy at the end last month due to a T21 diagnosis at 14+4 weeks. I’m not sure what you chose but I just wanted to mention the support group ARC in case you were not aware of it. It is a support group for women who chose to end their pregnancy for medical reasons.
