Antenatal tests

Amniocentesis initial results good, worried about the secondary results. Any positive stories?

Last week we had an Amniocentesis after a heart defect was found at our 20 week scan. We are over the moon that the initial result for Downs, Edward's and Patau's Syndrome have come back clear but I am still feeling anxious about the other results in a couple of week. Digeorge Syndrome is linked with the heart defect our baby has and this is something that takes longer to test for.
Has anyone got any positive stories relating to amniocentesis results that can help put my mind at ease?

@RoseFarm hi, is the heart defect a right aortic arch? If so, I went through exactly the same thing. I was so worried. Had the amnio & all was clear thank god! There is a big thread on this on netmums, have a look. My baby has a RAA. She’s now 7 weeks old. Still waiting for my appointment at the children’s hospital. Feel free to ask me any questions. Xx

@ivfmommy2b
Hey, thank you for responding to my post! Our baby has Tetralogy of Fallot, we have had a whirlwind of a week waiting for the amnio results, I am now ready to ring the cardiac nurse to ask lots of questions about this defect. It's such a scary time but we're thankful the amnio results have come back ok so far. Really nervous around the next set of results but we have learnt to take things day by day now!
I am going to have a look at netmums, that's a site I haven't looked at yet! X

Ok, so it’s a different defect, don’t know too much about that 1. But with the RAA there was also the association with digeorge syndrome, I was so worried about the full results, but all was ok 🙏🏻 I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the results. Xx

@ivfmommy2b fingers crossed the rest of our results come back clear too. It's so nerve wracking. How long did you have to wait for the second lot of test results? We're 21 weeks now and feeling nervous that in another 2 weeks we'll be over 23 weeks. Xx

I waited 2 weeks from the amnio. I was 21 weeks also. Just try & stay as positive as you can as I think the doctors give you worst case scenario & tend to make u worry more. Xx

@Silentgirl007 they didn't mention anything about my fluids or the kidneys. It was because our baby has a heart defect why they were concerned of other abnormalities x

@Silentgirl007 I also have a heart scan tomorrow, they haven't told me my husband can't come but half expecting when I get there he won't be allowed in :(. It's such a difficult time, especially with such important appointments when you need support.
The amniocentesis is ok.. you'll be absolutely fine and smash it! I'd do it again tomorrow if I had to. I needed those results so I had the facts of what's going on. Sending you luck and positivity xx

Good luck with your scan today. We finally had the appointment at the children’s hospital the other week. They scanned baby & all appears fine. At the moment she isn’t displaying any symptoms, but she may once she’s on solids. They will see her again in 6 months. Keep us posted how you get on @RoseFarm. Xx

Thinking of you Thanks We were told by a consultant our sons birth defects meant it was highly highly likely he had Trisomy 18. Well, all of the Amnio results came back clear and they have now ruled out all of the birth defects they thought he had (essentially this one doctor misdiagnosed everything!). Our baby boy has a cleft lip only. Try and stay positive until those results come in. X

Hi all :). We had a really positive appointment this week. The heart's grown well, she will need open heart surgery around 6 months old but the doctor said she should be ok to survive on her own until that point with little intervention :). This means I can have her at our own hospital, completely naturally too which I'm so happy about xx
