Low Papp-a & High Down's risk

Hello everyone (really sorry if I mess this up but it's my first post)
I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant with my second child and after the combined screening test, we've been given a high risk (1 in 76) for Downs Syndrome. (Edwards and Patau's low risk)
The hospital explained that the high risk is due to low Papp-a levels and slightly raised hcg but Nuchal measurement normal.
We've opted to have CVS done to get a definitive yes or no (went last week but unable to do due to position of placenta, going back on Fri).
I'm just wondering if anyone else has been/is in a similar situation as I'm struggling to process at the min, all a bit emotional/devastating. And the waiting around is killing me!

@ALC86 sorry you're going through this op! I came back 1 in 19 when I was 14 weeks but never got a breakdown of what contributed to making it high risk.
The waiting is the absolute worst part of it! I decided to go for the amnio rather than the cvs so not 100% sure what the cvs is like but happy to answer any questions.

Remember even though it sounds like such high risk it's still less than 2% so it's so much more likely everything will be fine than not

I had the cvs as neck measurement was over normal amount.

It was a week wait for the test then a week for the results. Worst two weeks of my life. I cried the whole time and fully prepared myself for a termination which I was terrified of.

The cvs didn't actually hurt but was scary as you have to stay really still and I was worried moving could cause the needle to go into baby. I was a bit sore after but that might have been in my head.

My cvs came back normal but its now transpired my baby does have a rare genetic condition.

The only thing I can say is, this time will pass and one day will just be a distant memory. Do what you can to keep your mind off it and just remember whatever happens and whatever you decide to do - you will get through it.

Did they tell you your actual blood Results. I had a really high hcg and slightly low pap a, but normal NT. We had the IONA (nipt) That has recently come back low risk. The waiting is horrendous though isnt it.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and kind words. Had the CVS yesterday, really sore and anxious today but will have results by Tuesday. The waiting is the worst!!!

I had low Papp-a in a previous pregnancy and the baby was fine (and pregnancy went without complications).

It’s good news that the nt is normal!

The waiting taught me that whatever decision you make depending on Feb result as it made me properly consider all the pros and cons of each
As it happened our risk came back positive but with a number of other conditions that meant that the baby wouldn’t have survived so we therefore terminated. It wasn’t easy but there wasn’t really a decision

Hi all, sorry if this is off topic. I had a very low risk for Downs etc but my midwife called to say my HCG and PAPP hormone levels meant they want to carry out more scans from 28weeks on. I naively didn't ask why as it kind of shocked me. Is this similar to information you were given? Should I ask for a CVS test?

Farack it was probably your Pap A that was low. Sometimes it indicates that the placenta isn't going to work quite as well, so baby could be small or that you are at more risk of pre eclampsia. That's often why they offer growth scans if you have low pap a.
