Hi Ladies, can anyone provide some experience or stories if they have been through the same.

I went for a scan last Saturday and they asked me to come back on Wednesday as it was measuring a bit small. So we went back and they said our babies head is small for the dates I think I am. They then called our EPU which referred us to a hospital in London.

I called the scan people back and said do they think it could be Anencephaly to which they said yes. They didn't want to give me the name as they thought I'd google it. Which clearly I did. My partner and I are devastated and have to wait till Monday for confirmation.

Has anyone been told their baby might have this but actually they were wrong? I'm meant to be 12 weeks today but when they measured on Wednesday they said I was 10+1 and couldn't get a good measurement as the baby was curled up. Has anyone else's baby been curled up at their appointment with a baby approx 10/11 weeks?

Any stories would really be appreciated.

I have not been in your exact situation but have been sent off from a scan with a vague hint of what was wrong (in my case a piece of paper saying abnormal heart views) and an appointment several days later to see fetal medicine. I sort of get the mentality of not telling you too much in case you Google but you are going to do it anyway and gravitate towards the worse cases.

I'm not going to tell you not too Google or worry (I would be a total hypocrite) but try to keep busy. We found going out for a walk helped (and keeps you away from the web). Fingers crossed for Monday for you and hopefully this will bump it up for you so someone with experience of your situation might see it.

I don't thunk they'd tell you without reasonable suspicion. It's pretty obvious if a baby has it compared yup a baby with a normal brain. Im sorry x

I didn't want to just read this and not post. I hope you get answers on Monday and you can be strong and have support from your family. Xx

Very hard to say because each situation is different but my first born's head measured very small on her 20 week scan and we got referred. The specialist scanned again and although it was small she didn't think there was a bigger issue. She did pick up that there was a problem with the blood supply to the placenta so she put me on aspirin. She was born perfectly fine, two weeks overdue. She did have two quite deep dips in either side of her head though which I think is what had raised the concern. It was just the shape of her head though. I know it's very difficult but try not to worry until you've seen the specialist because things can change dramatically, I had to wait 2 days for the referral and I must have cried non stop. Sending you a massive hug.
