Antenatal tests

12 week combined scan/bloods results show very high risk 1:5

I thought the scariest part of a 12 week scan would be discovering a MMC, so to see my baby on the screen wriggling about with a nice heartbeat I instantly felt relief. Measurements were done and the midwife never mentioned anything wrong with those. However the NT was 3.4mm which I googled later and found out was high. I called yesterday to chase up the combined score with bloods and was devastated to be told we have a 1:5 chance of chromosome abnormalities. I don't actually have my individual blood levels but assume they were also off. Getting the harmony test done this afternoon but it will be a long wait for the results. I just don't know what to do with myself.

I'm so sorry. I had a similar experience, although was fast tracked straight to having a CVS as my results were so bad and the NT measurement was 4.2mm.

The waiting is so, so hard, I got myself signed off work immediately and I would really recommend giving ARC (Antenatal Results and Choices) a call, they have very supportive helpline (0845 077 2290 or 0207 713 7486 via mobile).

I really hope things turn out ok for you. x

Thank you for your reply Ova

Changed my mind at my appointment after talking things through with the consultant. So now getting CVS done on Thursday, just need a definite answer.

Hi I'm in a similar situation at the moment, my odds came out 1:46 but high risk due to my bloods, I have an amnio booked for Thursday as I'm 15 weeks today but also opted for the panorama blood test as I was keen to check possible other chromosomal abnormalities also, may be overkill but I am such a worrier and wanted to do try and put my mind at rest as much as possible and try and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy. It's such a worrying time isn't it, I hope everything works out for you Smile

Hi jb, hope you get the result you want on Thursday but just thought I would say that I have a DD with downs which a high nuchal scan result can indicate. If you have a positive result for downs and want to ask any questions I'm more than happy to answer them 😀 Try not to worry, easier said than done I know x

It was a while ago now, 10 years but I had a 1 in 5 result too and was fast tracked to a cvs.
It's a very stressful wait for the cvs and then the results, a week later for us.
If there are any questions I can answer for you please go ahead.

I hope you get the result you are looking for Betrina, I hope the amino is ok tomorrow.

I am nervous for my CVS tomorrow but at least it's a step towards an answer. I bet it was the longest week ever Ayehen

Was reading my results of my bloods and am now a little confused.
b-HCG 0.64 MoM
Papa-A 0.51 MoM
I thought b-HCG was raised with downs not lower. From these results it looks like I'm more at risk of T13/T18 than downs. I could be wrong though.

Thank you lady for the support.

JB yes you're right, low pappa and Hcg is associated with T13 and T18 not downs. My baby had T18 but my HCG and PAPPA were both much lower than yours. 0.14 and 0.21 I think off hand.
It's good you're going for the CVS - do let me know if you have any questions at all. I hope everything works out for you it's the scariest and most horrid thing in the world to go through and I know how terrified and worried you must be.
My thoughts are with you.

Hi Jb, thanks, hope your cvs goes ok tomorrow too.

Just out of interest how do you know the actual blood results, I've never been given any information on exactly what my levels are, I did ring midwife to ask but she was really reluctant to give it to me

My cvs is at a different hospital so she gave me a letter to take with me which included my results.

OP as hard as it is please try not to worry. This was me last week. I had better odds however my bloods were ridiculous my HCG was 4 times what it should have been! We were high risk of downs and we had the Iona test and it was the worst wait of my life but we had the results within seven working days.

Do you have friends and family around? The best thing you can do is go out because that passes the days more quickly. My family and friends made sure that I went out every day all day for all seven days and kept me busy at night cooking and going out for meals etc and it really helped.

There is still a chance that everything could be fine. We came back all clear. I know the wait is the worse and it kills you but hang on in there Flowers

Well done JB you've got through a hard bit.
In my case the dr rang me as soon as they had the results, that was ahead of the official letter. Very helpful.

Yes Jessy I have a full weekend planned with family, my graduation and day tickets to a music festival so hoping that will make the time pass quicker.

I'm actually terrified of the phone ringing dunoon because I know those results are final. That sounds stupid because I'm desperate to know and yet I don't want to answer the phone in case it's bad news!
