Antenatal tests

Very worried

Hello everyone, this is the first time I have posted on a forum. I am pregnant with 4th baby, am 41 and have been told we have a 1 in 9 chance of having a baby with Down's Syndrome via our NHS blood tests. We have elected to have a harmony test and are awaiting results. We also have a 20 week anomoly scan with a consultant on Tuesday. So far everything has been communicated in quite a negative and frightening way. I can't sleep and wonder if my baby is feeling the stress. I've also not had much movement. I'm in Scotland. Would be grateful for any advice or thoughts please? Thank you

Ah how worried you must be. I recently had the harmony test and the results we're back within the week. It's a horrible week. I just wanted to say don't worry too much about stress, my dad died during my first pregnancy and I was very sad and upset (obviously). It was a horrible time but if you can eat and drink baby will be fine I promise.

I hope everything turns out well for you xx

I'm sorry you're going through this stress. Unfortunately there is little you can do until you get the results back.

If your 20 week scan is on Tuesday they may be able to see more things that indicate that everything is fine, and their tone may change. Remember that a 1 in 9 chance of Down's is also an 8 in 9 chance of being fine.

The harmony test is excellent and will tell you if the baby has any chromosomal issues. Hand hold here 💐

OP, I've seen women on here talk of worse odds and end up having no problem.

I'm pregnant and 41 also and I was worried about all of these things too. We elected to have Harmony before the NHS test (which I was sure would be negative news.)

As I'm finding with pregnancy in general, so much of it is out of our control. It's so easy to worry about everything, but unfortunately we can only wait and see.

Ive got everything crossed for you to receive good news. Hang in there.
