CVS booked for tomorrow... Terrified!

Hi. 13 weeks pregnant with second child, 1st DD is 14 months and perfectly healthy. Had dating scan on Thursday and very worryingly and upsetting we were told we were high risk due to NF of 6mm. Bloods came back as high risk too and soecialist said we have a 1/5 chance of DS or potentially cardio problems. Booked to have CVS on Monday. I'm so nervous of the procedure (needle phobic) and the outcome. Trying to stay positive but my mind keeps swaying massively to worse case scenario and all the possibilities. Seems to be so many!! I know the next week is going to be unbearable waiting for results and hoping I don't miscarry from the CVS.
I'm just terrified at the moment and feeling very emotional and low... hoping for some support and advice from this group. Thanks x

Just wanted to send you positive vibes for tomorrow. Remember 1/5 chance is an 80% chance that baby doesn't have DS or cardio problems x

Thankyou Sophia. I'm hoping so much that were some of the lucky ones in the 80%

Good luck. I had an amnio at 22 weeks, it was over relatively quickly but of course I felt worried.

With regard to the results, my advice would be take each day as it comes. There's no use worrying about what you don't yet know (easier said then done) Our baby has a brain abnormality and I've tried to do this, as there are so many what ifs etc

Hi Emmy, I had CVS years ago when I was expecting twins. Basically one twin was given a 1 in 4 chance of DS, the other normal. It was the most difficult decision I ever made, particularly because my babies were the result of infertility treatment. But the risk of miscarriage is really low, I think you are more likely to die in a car crash, and that is something most of us do every day (drive, not die!).

Fortunately it worked out well for me and my twins, all well and healthy. I knew that I could not have gone through the pregnancy worrying about whether my child was going to have a disability, I had to know so that I could prepare myself.

As pp said, there is a 4 in 5 chance your child will not be affected. The odds are in your favour. Please take some support with you if you can, and try to keep as calm as possible. Remember the doctors perform these tests every day and know what they are doing.

Good luck, let us know how you get on!

I don't have a very straight forward story I'm afraid .. I will elaborate if you really want me to but I don't want to worry you any more . Good luck for today and as said above the baby will not doubt be fine afterwards . I was told as long as it's still moving around afterwards then that's a great sign .

Thankyou ladies for your support. I really appreciate it and made me feel calmer going in.
All went fairly well with the CVS. Specialist was happy with the sample taken and said he wasn't alarmed by and of the scan images. Also the NT had gone down to 3.5mm which is ressurimg. Heart and brain also appeared normal from what they could tell us at this stage. Results in a week or so, will update as I know more. X
