NIPT test comes back 99% positive, any hope with Amnio…?(4 Posts)
What a roller coaster ride this has been, moments of bliss, to moments of absolute crumbling mess…I had a slightly abnormal NT scan, 4mm. Combined with my age (35) and the bloods, I was told 1 in 5 chance DS. I was too scared to have the amnio, so i went for the NIFTY NIPT test, came back 99% positive. Totally devastated. Words can not describe, but I know there are so many other mums who have had this happen also… I had to have an amino which i had today, it was easier and less painful than I imagined, but still not nice. I get the results in two days…waiting is horrible.
I was also told also today after scan and amnio that my bebe also has a soft marker on his heart, (wasn't picked up on the anomaly) one larger artery than the other. This may just be a little thing at this stage, doctor said it may or my not be related to DS, in fact if bebe does not have DS the heart problem may have made my NT result of 4mm what it was…just more confused really…Doctor told me I should not worry about that until results come back first stating whether bebe has DS or not…I'm assuming now the worst, I have this tiny glimmer of hope though, but I cannot torture myself any more and I feel detaching myself a little bit might help me when the crunch time comes…
Does anyone have ANY similar experiences? Told one thing by a NIPT test and the amnio told them another…? Can NIPT test be wrong…? Is amnio 100% correct? Anyone else be told one thing but have a different outcome? Thanks for reading, bless you all.
I was told that the non-invasive test Harmony was 99.9% accurate with a 0.1% false positive rate. Is NIFTY another brand of the same free fetal cell DNA test?
However, the non-invasive covers itself as a "screening" test whereas the amnio is actually diagnostic.
I'm sorry but in my personal unscientific opinion, I think the amnio will probably confirm the non-invasive test.
