Antenatal tests

Do you get a detailed scan as part of the NIFTY test?

I'm 35 and 12 weeks pregnant with a much wanted IVF baby, we also have a healthy son of six.

My 12 wk scan has come back with a risk of 1 in 29 for Downs. They didn't test for any other trisomies. I considered the CVS but can't bear the mc risk and I can't wait til 15 wks for an amnio so I'm booked for a NIFTY test on Wednesday. I'll be paying for the express service but I think that still takes a couple of weeks to come back. I am hoping they will also scan me on the day and give me more of an idea based on that but don't know if they do this? I know they can look for soft factors like the nasal bone and length of the limbs.

We have decided we would definitely terminate if it came back positive for our own personal reasons. Sorry if anyone finds that offensive but I think it's purely the woman's choice.

Hi

My understanding of the nifty and harmony tests is that it is just a blood draw - no further scanning is required due to the accuracy of the test. If u are keen for a detailed scan and they don't offer it, try some of the ivf clinics, often they do detailed anomaly scans for a reasonable price.

I'm sorry your dealing with this. A high risk outcome is awful but after the added heartache of ivf it just seems cruel.

Yes I might go back to my ivf clinic if they don't as their scanning equipment was far better than the NHS machine. Thanks.

I just feel numb at the moment. I think I can start to feel the baby move but I'm disengaged from it now. My mind has checked out of the pregnancy to protect myself.

Hello turq. I remember you from the ivf thread. I'm sorry you have this worry. I had the harmony test at the FMC and their package included a quick viability scan and blood draw at first visit and result plus detailed scan two weeks later. I'm not sure if this package is still available but other places might do similar.

We had that package at the FMC, but I think you have to get in earlier to do it. The equipment and level of care at the FMC was superb.

I think switching off from the pregnancy is a normal response. I'm pg with an ivf baby and now 24 weeks. I can't fully accept I'm pregnant. God knows if I ever will. Just had too much heartache to believe it.

hi,
We just had a viability scan and the blood draw. I don't remember any other scans being available. All the best to you. Sorry you're having to go through this. Easy for me to say, but remember that 1 in 29 is still pretty good odds, so don't give up hope just yet. Thanks

You may find more knowledgeable people on the antenatal tests / choices topic. You can report your own post asking it to be moved if you like or start another one there or do an advanced search.

Good idea. I think I'll move it over.

Hello Euro and everyone else who has replied. I know there's nothing I can do but wait but yes I suppose the results could be worse. My friend confided in me today that her risk had come back at 1 in 10 when she was 36 and she'd gone through hell but her little girl was perfectly healthy.

We had the Nifty done at the This is my clinic in Leeds under the care of Mr Gerald Mason at 11 weeks.
We had a very detailed scan before the blood test where the consultant said that he would be very disappointed if there were any issues with baby at all.
Results came back all clear within 9 days in the high millions for all trisomies.

Oh thanks for the reply.
That's the same clinic I am travelling too so it's great to hear you were pleased with it. When I've looked at their price list there is an option for just the bloods taken and also an option for a 20 min scan as well so I'm going to ring up tomorrow and check I'm booked in for the scan too.
