Nuchal Scan at 11+2?

Hi

Ive been redated to 1 wk 4 days earlier than I thought. This now means that Ill be on holiday from 11+3 to 13+5 - the timeframe needed for the Nuchal.

Ive just called Fetal Medicine Centre and they told me they wouldnt do it at 11+2, only from 11+3.

Ive got an appointment with the NHS for when we get back from holiday when Im 13+6 but am nervous that it will be too late. Im 37 and feeling nervous about this pregnancy after 2 mc.

Does anyone have experience of early Nuchals and how successful they are in reading the scan?

Also, any recommendations for somewhere good that would do one from 11+2?

We are in Kent, but can travel to London.

Many thanks for your help, hating the fact that we've got this holiday booked and feeling v anxious.

xxx

I am 36 and just had my first scan yesterday at 14+2. They couldn't do my nuchal and sonographer said they can't after 13+6. So as you say, you are right to try to get it done sooner.

I was quite upset that I couldn't have it as the delay was caused by errors - not mine.

However, the accuracy rate is not necessarily higher than the quad blood test which you can get until much later (19 weeks I think), it also depends on the position of the baby. I know someone who was brought back twice to try again when first attempt failed, and in the end still didn't get it as the baby wasn't lying in the right position on any of the 3 occasions.

So although I totally understand that you really want it, don't panic if you can't go for the blood tests instead and you should still get the risk indicator you want.

good luck with your pregnancy and congratulations. :)
