You are a clever bean for collating all those stats.

I'm off to have a midwife app. now, so will catch up on all the gossip later.

maymum Wed 27-Apr-05 16:28:06

Thanks for doing that fisil. Best of luck when your time does finally arrive! And that goes for everyone else too...

I think I've got ages to go - I'm betting on 1st June and DH thinks 28th or 29th May - late either way!

logic Wed 27-Apr-05 17:11:07

I've packed some snacks for my hospital bag finally. I've thrown in some rice pudding pots and fruit pots and chocolate and raisins. I remember from last time that while they bring you lunch and dinner, you are expected to fetch your own breakfast from the dining room. Last time I didn't get anything because I was loathe to leave ds in a ward full of strangers and couldn't be bothered to take him with me. I think that the point of this ramble is to advise first-timers to take food!

Tinker Wed 27-Apr-05 17:22:39

I'm 10/5

tab Wed 27-Apr-05 17:37:34

Im due 24/5.

Preggars Wed 27-Apr-05 17:54:20

That's a good point about breakfast. I was so worried about leaving DS as well, so missed out on brekkie, which is one of my favourity meals of the day!

Just been to Midwife app., and head engaged!! oooh. Hope I'm a bit early, would be nice.

cab Wed 27-Apr-05 18:35:31

Mine has been brought forward, I'm jumping the queue sorry girls but move out of the way, northstar is coming into the home straight.... I will be induced 1st thing wed 4th, and am now absolutely terrified. Cleaned under the microwave AGAIN today WHY????? The baby won't be under there LOL

logic Thu 28-Apr-05 08:29:55

Don't be worried, northstar! Just think, you'll be able to sleep on your back. I am so envious. I bet that I'll be induced at 11 days over.

Maddison Thu 28-Apr-05 09:41:06

DS was born at 7:31 on the morning so I was 'lucky' enough to have breakfast in the delivery room (and so did DH if I remember rightly)

Speaking of breakfast I remember when I was 35 weeks pg with DS1 I was admitted to the antenatal ward with some complications, the following morning when I went to get breakfast I said to one of the other ladies 'when are you due?' to which she replied 'I had him yesterday!' It was one of those moments when you want the ground to swallow you up!

northstar Thu 28-Apr-05 10:55:25

Thanx logic.
Maddison, it is difficult to tell so soon after - dont worry. I remember feeling slim the day after ds born, but obviously it's just a relative feeling after being so huge up until then

Hi everyone. I'm planning to be skinny the day after birth... yeah, I wish! My goal is actually to be back into some normal clothes when I return to work 3 months after birth.

I think I have sorted my "how do I get to hospital?" dilemma. DH's brother is going to come stay with us for a few weeks. SO if I should go into labour at least I'll have him to drive / babysit. Now. let's just hope nothing happens at work or in rush hour! I'm probably being a tad bit paranoid, but I've decided it's my right to freak out if I want to.

So, has everyone got their bag packed? Should we review compare contents again?

I've got:
Two outfits for baby (one for picture, one for going home)
A bunch of vests / sleep suits
Arnica (weak and strong varieties)
Breastfeeding night shirt
slippers
bathrobe
breast pads
maternity pads
underwear
make up, shower stuff...

I'm going to get some cheap mens t-shirts from Tesco just to be comfy in when I don't want to wear the ugly hospital gowns that reveal my fat arse sticking out the back.

logic Thu 28-Apr-05 11:20:07

Essential item for the bag: camera with spare batteries and compact flash card!

God think my bag will be slightly biggers than Uwilas! We have also been advised to pack:
Baby wash
Nappies
Cotton Wool
Bath Towels
A few baby grows (just in case)

All the above are quite bulky and looks like dh will have to carry the bags!

I have also packed as extra:
Snacks (Choc..mmmmm. Drinks)
A few tops/bottoms for me (Panicing like mad that the tops that fit me now won't in 2-4 weeks time! How on earth do you know what size you will be after baby is born?)

Baby's going home outfit can be brought in by DH when we are ready to go home. Didn't think about an outfit for baby's photo...Good advice Uwila think I may pinch that idea ! Mmmm god knows how I will get it into my bag

uwila Thu 28-Apr-05 11:54:00

Oh yeah... pressie from DD to baby. What the H*ll do I get?!?!?!?

And, I must confess my bag will be bigger than that last probably already is. It's just that I'm sitting at work and mushy brain can't remember what all is in the bag. I have packed nappies and wipes. I don't do cotton wool and water because merconium is NOT water soluable.

And, camera is DH's job. Oh, yes must get the music player organised.

Blimey, I'm not packed at all, am I. Better get on the job.

uwila Thu 28-Apr-05 11:55:27

mushy mushy mushy.... why do I even come to work? the pressie is FROM BABY TO DD. Grrr...

Oh lookey, it's lunch time.

tab Thu 28-Apr-05 11:58:43

Mmm you've all got me thinking. I have started to pack my bag just in case. But its difficult cos I keep thinking I need that stuff out for home birth. DH is painting spare bedroom so our bedroom is piled up with all kinds of extra stuff and boxes. Its panicking me a bit.
Think I will go to tesco and do some more shopping. Yes baggy teeshirts are a really good idea. I couldnt find the t shirt that I wore last time. Somewhere in the attic no doubt.
Oh yes and Im going to buy some of that evian spray for your face just to pretend that Im sophisticated - although in reality its probably something that I'll find at the bottom of the bag weeks later. Hospitals are pretty hot though and it might give partner something to do!!
Have washed a load of babygros but need to buy a baby cardi. Its very difficult to predict the weather isnt it. I had ds1 in july last time and it was so hot that he didnt wear hardly any clothes for the first two months - just a nappy and a sheet!!

Catch up with you all later. Have a good day

tab Thu 28-Apr-05 12:06:07

uwila, I meant to say - look at the pregnancy talk topics - I posted a thread about pressies about a week ago and got a load of good suggestions. i think I might buy a doctors kit from baby to 2.10 ds1 which reminds me -Id better get that sorted out. I thought also the suggestion of something from ds for the baby like a blanket was a good idea cos then he could see that baby liked his prezzy - used it alot.

Noggermum Thu 28-Apr-05 13:11:27

Hi everyone, I am such an irregular poster AND have never gotten round to posting my stats that I have onviously not made it onto the may roll call - but if I can be added - Noggermum (obviously!) 29/05.

Shhhhh - you have been told to pack baby towel and wash? Don't tell me your NHS trust is actually going to show you how to do a baby bath!! When I had DD1 my hospital said they were far too busy to deal with things like that (!)(probably also explains why they kept trying to get my consent to feed DD formula - too busy to show me ghow to feed properly too) and later in my notes I noticed that they had drawn a big black line through the section that said they had shown me how to nappy/bath/dress/feed etc and had just written "mother confident" next to it - despite the fact that I clearly wasn't! Ho hum. Wonder if they will be "too busy" to do the delivery this time?

uwila Thu 28-Apr-05 13:29:07

Oh nogger, that's terrible. Name and shame your trust (if want to). I wasn't treated at all like that in Epsom. In fact when she came round to show me how to bath she asked if I wanted to do it if if she should do it and show me. I said she could do it. By the look on her face, I don't think that was the preferred respond. But, I never really followed her instructions anyway.
