PinkTulips Wed 10-Sep-08 12:01:46

whoops, internet cut out and things got confusing!

Singingintherain Wed 10-Sep-08 12:06:29

I too have no car, but I am lucky that my children can catch a school bus. Although yesterday morning we had the most terrible thunderstorm and the sky was pink. My eldest DD has a chronic phobia about storms and had a panic attack which set the youngest off. We just managed to stay under a tree during the rain until the bus came. They would not even let me have an umbrella up.

PinkTulips Wed 10-Sep-08 12:27:19

lol, poor thing. my 2 are a bit funny about storms too but we rarely get proper thnder in ireland so thankfully not something i have to deal with much.

oddly enough the days i find most annoying are the drizzly days that i actually don't mind walking and the kids enjoy too. every 3 seconds someone will pull up and offer a lift and none of them have carseats so i don't like sending dd with them unless absolutely necessary (it's only round the corner but still) but they look at me like i'm deranged and cruel to my poor drizzled on kids for wanting to walk [sigh]

last week ds threw a strop because he didn't want the buggy so i said 'fine, but i won't carry you at all' and we toddled off up the road. every single person who passed us stopped and offered a lift as i must be torturing the poor child forcing him to walk and i must be going mad walking so slowly, etc, etc.....

NO! i actually ENJOY walking with my kids and looking at bugs and plants..... just because they don't and feel the need to drive 1/4 mile to playschool even on nice days in their giant SUVs doesn't mean i'm crazy!

Singingintherain Wed 10-Sep-08 12:44:14

PinkTulips - I know what you mean about walking. If I can, I love to do it and the DD's like it too. Sometimes I can not be bothered to get the car and face having to sit in traffic for such short journeys. I used to laugh at the people who used to drive to school on a small estate in Enland and force residents to leave their cars at the end of the road as their drives were blocked by parents.

The school my children go to is in a remote part of the town although very close to us is it up a steep hill and the road is dangerous. Nearly all schools here have buses which is much better, but you do get parents that drive their children to the bus stop. hmm

laidbackinengland Wed 10-Sep-08 13:13:45

We walk to school most days - but today is the first day this term I've actually enjoyed it because NEWSFLASH - it wasn't raining !

Great pictures of your scan mrsy. Have just found out a friend has had a girl after having 5 boys ! She is in shock !

Singing - I hope it all goes well for you tomorrow and baby is all A ok.

Singingintherain Wed 10-Sep-08 13:23:23

Thanks. Just trying to get some rest to see if I can feel any kicking. I am sure, I felt something, but did just eat a handful of marshmallows. smile

oooggs Wed 10-Sep-08 13:31:45

singingintherain - hope scan goes well tomorrow

we walk to school - its easier than getting dts in and out and in and out of the car

PinkTulips Wed 10-Sep-08 13:59:12

oooh, i almost forgot! i had a lovely surprise last night, went to weigh myself and while adjusting the scales realised the kids must have been messing with it and the last time i weighed myself it was 10 kilos higher than it should have been.... so i haven't gained the scary amount of weight i thought i had (was bugging me as i didn't think i'd gained that much!)

am 62.5 kgs now, which is 5kgs more than at this stage with dd and 5kgs less than at this stage with ds so i'm happy and feeling alot less like a whale today grin

told dp and just got the 'i told you you weren't fat' hmm yes well you told me that when i was absolutely fecking massive after having ds too so i'd hardly believe you would i?!

Singingintherain Wed 10-Sep-08 14:28:02

I was looking at my wedding photo the other day and realised that on that it was about 23 weeks. You could hardly tell at all, just a little bump. I am nearly 20 weeks and look massive. It was so obvious as school that everyone was doing a double take. Thonly thing is, is that I have only put on 2 kilos, but have managed to loose three stones in just over a year without dieting.

america Wed 10-Sep-08 15:39:49

and I should really do some work for a change. I've done very little today except chatted to different people... What happened to my ambition and work motivation...

TinkerBellesMum Wed 10-Sep-08 16:21:44

Guitargirl no one ever tells you and it took me doing the peer support course to find out, but colostrum comes in teaspoon amounts. I felt terrible that I couldn't get anything from expressing, but apparently it's normal with colostrum. Your blood won't actually harm your LO either, the nurse could have at least took the milk and told you you'd done really well and chucked it when you weren't looking. i made sure that however much I expressed I gave it and tried to smile because I didn't want to put myself off. I'm glad it all worked out for you in the end.

PT, I also know someone, an MNer actually, who managed to pump till six months. Her son was premature and they aren't very good at looking after premature babies at that hospital (local to me and one I know quite well which is why my children haven't been /won't be born there) and she never established breastfeeding. I'm sure any mother who succeeds in exclusive expressing will tell you it's really hard work and takes up a large portion of the day.

I'm laughing at descriptions of sleepy jaundiced babies, I think they would have liked Tink to be sleepy, she kept pulling her goggles off and getting quite cross under the lights. Looking back at her, her personality shone through, she has always been a fighter, independent, stubborn... The sweetest child you could meet, I can't believe it's really the child that's lived with me for the last 2 years! How did I not break her hmm

Now to the new thread:

PT, each one is lasting less time, last one was 29 days, so I'm betting 23 days... I'm off to start a new thread!

I used to live opposite a school and they used to park on our drive to get out. It wasn't a very big road, just a normal residential road and there was a crescent that went around the back. My aunt (who always walked to school) used to live furthest from the school at less than a mile, but the road was always rammed full. There were cars, school trips and my brother went to a special school so had a coach to take him to school. The school paid someone to walk up and down with a camera then called a parents meeting and shamed the parents by showing the video grin

I weighed myself this week and I'm the same weight I was before I got pregnant, so I think that means I've lost some! I'm very pleased!grin

Blimey, I've missed a lot today! Unfortunately I've had to do lots of work as things have suddenly got very hectic in the office. How annoying to be distracted from MN!

I plan to join the Facebook group but will have to do it tonight as my office have also banned the site.

Lots of little flutters from my little visitor today, makes me smile every time I feel it.

lardybump Wed 10-Sep-08 17:24:04

evening everyone. I am very envy of all you ladies not putting on any weight. I have put on a stone already (not sure of how many kg that is) and I am only 16 weeks......

TinkerBellesMum Wed 10-Sep-08 17:59:21

About 6.35

I needed to not put on any weight, I started this pregnancy at 32 BMI blush

TinkerBellesMum Wed 10-Sep-08 18:00:36

I've dropped a BMI number (just checked) between 8 weeks and 19 weeks pregnant
