July 2013 - thread 5 - baby kicks and scan pics, we're halfway there!(961 Posts)
New thread to natter on. Will go find the due date thread to link on in a tick...
Ellie sounds like your appointment was mostly v positive.
Re movement I was getting so worried about lack of it then one day after scan baby went crazy with the kicking and although bit on and off it's been happening pretty much daily since then. So please don't worry too much. It happens at different times for different people. Also with some people you may find you have anterior placenta like I did so movement not always so early on or easily felt
Thanks for the skin tips everyone! I've got some E45 intensive recovery lotion so going to give that a go - will report back.
Congratulations whitedaffodil! I have a blue bump too and it was also obvious on my scan It's definitely kicks I can feel some of the time - Bobble kicked during the scan and I simultaneously saw and felt it. Really handy as I can now tell the difference between wriggling and kicking, the kicks are definitely much fainter. I like your idea about nuts/oils for my skin and will give it a go. Good excuse to try some of those recipes for honey roasted nuts I think.
Daffodil and Ellie so pleased re scans!
I have v few kicks ATM which is v v v late for me as I normally feel them extremely early. Either that or my body's so used to being pg it doesn't bother responding! Feels not at all long ago I was at this stage : /
Re prams as dc7 not even crawling at 12 months a double is going to be necessary and as I am a rear facing type there's only the bugaboo donkey -!!
Rear facing is the way to go I'd say I can't talk to mine when they face away and I hate the thought of pushing my bairns INTO the wind
No bump here but only 18+ 5
thanks Hai, iclaudius, dinky, ama, devil
devil my other thought was it's about now that that greasy coating really starts forming, I think. Has to be made out of something ... might as well be the good fats from honey roasted nuts - yum!
Aargh! Just lost my post!
Scan all good apart from bubba not cooperating kept head down very low in my pelvis so sonographer struggled to do head measurements, when she finally got those bubba then put hands over her face so made it difficult to check for cleft palate etc. got it all eventually and all fine. Didn't want to know gender but I'm convinced its a girl due to being so awkward! apparently bubba had long legs and weights 1lbs 1oz (I asked if there was a way of working it out!)
bb01 check out the maxi cosi Elea, that seems to be one of the smallest when folded can get a carry cot with it but the pushchair lies completely flat so don't need the carry cot.
Glad other scans went well and ellie you has a good appointment
21+1 (keep forgetting that bit)
I'll start swimming in Clarins huile tonic soon but for the moment I'm bathing in oilatum which just stops the full body dander experience!!
Elli sounds like you have lots of good and reassuring drs around you. Sounds very positive.
On the pct gender thing is it for insurance reasons or because they are concerned people might terminate due to gender? What a sad thought sorry
On buggies I like the look of maclaren techno due to lightness, easy to fold etc but it only faces outward which is a downside. Uppababy isn't light or cheap but has had super reviews. It's my dhs favourite City jogger also looked good I think. Stupidly I wouldn't have looked at it as I dont jog and thought it was designed just for this but actually could be a good option. A lady on a train told me about a something 360 which she recommended but I can't remember the full name.
Glad your scan was good and baba is nice and healthy begining
Cheek - did she recommend an out and about 360? Baby jogger is not a jogging buggy despite the misleading name - you need specialist buggies for that with huge wheels and good suspension.
dinky I have posted there, she has responded but I've looked at her suggestions & still don't like them! Am I just too fussy haha?! Maybe will have to put up with one that I don't automatically fall in love with.
Oh dear Phie! Is it the materials you don't like? Sadly most buggies are much of a muchness material wise unless you pay ££££. It might be an idea to make a list of your absolute must haves and your nice to haves and see where that takes you.
Thanks ladies for the words on movement. I was a wreck before the 12 week scan so think my nerves are just getting to me again. See you Monday Ama and MightBe after your scans
I'm with you on the dry skin. I'm using baby oil fairly liberally every morning and occasionally aveeno lotion, but I find oil quicker when I'm in a rush and also feels warmer (I'm a wimp and our house isn't exactly toastie).
I'm also eating loads of crisps as part of my theory that more fat in my diet is good for the baby and my skin
Glad to hear operation tights is showing signs of improvement, dinky
Great news on the scans, white & beginning
Your team sound great, ellie. I'm sure you and the baby will do brilliantly. 24 hours isn't too long really. Having said that, I had to stay for 3 days with DD (total of 5 days in the hospital) & it felt like torture. I think it's helpful to have an expected discharge plan. I found not having any idea when we'd be released really frustrating. Fortunately my mum and dad brought me in pizzas or I would've starved.
Scan today went well. Slightly uncooperative baby, but we got there eventually (with a lot of jiggling and table tilting ). We told the sonographer that we didn't want to know the gender, so she told us when to look away. The weight was estimated at 11oz and, unlike DD, this one isn't falling off the bottom of all the centiles .
I've definitely been feeling a bit more movement in the last couple of days, but mainly when I'm lying quietly in bed.
So jealous of your scans! I got to see my daughter for all of thirty seconds as that was the only time they would turn the screen towards me. I'm very glad i had a private panic scan at 16 weeks or I would have felt really, really miserable! As it was the NHS equipment looked so fuzzy compared to the private one I don't think I really missed out, but you all sound like you got to watch the whole thing!
runswith how strange they didnt let you see the whole thing? Screen was turned towards me and sonographer the whole time. Never heard anyone say they didnt get to watch the whole scan!
The second screen wasn't working for my 20 WK scan so we just all looked at the sonographers which she angled more towards us. V odd they didn't let throughout Runs.
Glad you had good scans Totally and Beginning.
Thanks so much Elea - not seen that one before! Will take a look
Sorry Beginning, that was supposed to read thanks so much re Elea! Doh! I realise that isn't your name!
Lol maybe we could put Elea out there as a name for those who know they are having girls....or maybe its a boys name! I'm going to try putting on in my tiny boot this weekend so I'll report back! Mothercare advised me which pushchairs fold the smallest but I didn't really like the ones they said (can't remember which they said!)
That must be it dinky i'll have to look it up. You have lots of knowledge, thank you. My DH is currently googling buggies as i type too - men like looking at things with wheels i figure.
Glad you had a good scan totally. I'd say your theory on the crisps is spot on ;)
Squirrel That is good you had a private scan if you didn't see much today. They are quite fuzzy aren't they? And the fact they take cross-sections doesn't really contribute to the 'beauty shots'. I can't remember who said it was like looking at the matrix! Very true But isn't that amazing that we can see through our skin, to our wombs, and inside a baby that''s only the size of a banana all with sound waves (ithink). What a wonderful invention.
phie you sound like you have similar feelings about prams to me. Husband laughed at my explanations of things as "yimmy-yammy" and "baggy fabric". If it helps we went for the icandy peach jogger. It fitted my pernickity-ness but I realise yoy may be even more awkward than me
Morning all. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. It's my father in laws birthday so a big family get together all weekend. Have to show my ultra roundness. But first a quick trip to mother and next to get another mat dress. I am completely fedup with how uncomfortable my under bump jeans are.
Photographer, I meant to say on movement, I think it's the uterus pushing against your front that you feel (rather than baby kicking uterus iyswim). So anything that puts your uterus in closer/firmer contact with your front may help. I have felt what feels like a few movements this week but only when I've been lying in bed, on my front (with one leg bent up so I'm not actually putting all my weight on the bump iyswim). Worth a try?
Glad you had a good scan tottally
Oh no sorry you didnt have the best experiance with your scan runswith its strange that they did that, but as long as everything was okay with baba i suppose thats the main thing.
Might it be worth getting a private 4d scan to make up for it
photographer hope your family get together goes well and you find a fab dress to wear to it
