to tell my friend that her cat is NOT a babysitter!

My friend said she would look after ds today whilst I went shopping. (He is 14 months) I took him round this morning to find that her son was at home sick but hge didn't look very sick and was playing with their cat so i still left ds. I did ask her about the cat (I don't like them and she looked old and grumpy to me) My friend said the cat loved babies
Anyway I was gone for about three hours and my friend put ds down for a nap. Nobody quite knows what happened next because she left him in the front room alone with the window open. All we know is that when I drove up it was to see my son in the road chasing the cat!!!! It was really scary actually as the cat panicked and ran right in to ds who sat down on the pavement whilst i screeched to a halt. My friend and her son came running out and were fussing over the cat! I heard my friend's son (he is 6) say it was all my ds's fault as he shouldn't have gone outside. We think he must have climbed out of the living room window - possibly following the cat?

AIBU to be angry with my friend for leaving my son in the charge of her moggy?

Bloody hell, how terrifying. Being VERY generous, maybe your friend had a brainstorm and completely forgot the very basics of looking after a toddler? Still dreadful of her, though.

gingernutlover · 02/07/2010 19:34

i dont think i would be worried about the cat!

and i dont think she would be my fgriend anymore either

Bloody hell!

thisisyesterday · 02/07/2010 19:37

gosh how scary!

is it likely that he'd have been able to get out of the window?

to be fair, i leave my children asleep in rooms with windows open all the time.... I don't really think your friend could have foreseen him climbin out of the window, if that is what happened

YANBU. Angry? Like Stewie said, I'd be livid.

Where was she, if he was in the front room? Your post made my stomach turn over. Thank goodness you got back when you did. What did she say exactly?

Pattenberger · 02/07/2010 19:39

I wouldn't be cross with your friend. I would treat her cat to the biggest fish in the shop, since she saved your ds!

hitmouse · 02/07/2010 19:41

Have you read Mog and the baby?

Mrsclutterbuckisabitannoyed · 02/07/2010 19:42

Pattenberger - I actually did feel pressured in to doing that!

PMSL
Did your friend's son like pushing the cat in the pram?! And I believe she is not doing BLW either.

Don't get me started lanky.....she insisted on puree!

I've decided she is no longer my friend and will now diss her fashion sense - it's all a bit 70s/80s - in a BAD way.

how is it your baby Ds's fault he was playing in the road with her sodding cat?! I'd be seething.

Crapweasel · 02/07/2010 19:45

MrsC, I don't mean to be rude but you really should get yourself over to Style and Beauty. I do find your outfits a little dated

tvaerialmagpiebin · 02/07/2010 19:46

Oh I don't know, I like the ruffles on her skirt. Not sure about her son's insistence on red and orange together though.

Did you wear your really funky beret today?

Crapweasel · 02/07/2010 19:47

Oops x-posted.

nymphadora · 02/07/2010 19:47

Is the cat called Mog?

FionaSH · 02/07/2010 19:49

Awful. YANBU

louii · 02/07/2010 20:04

U were taking the piss anyway, how long does it take you to go shopping, u buggered off for 3 hours and ur friend already had an unwell child to look after.

Mrsclutterbuckisabitannoyed · 02/07/2010 20:07

I was wearing a beret but I fail to see what difference that made. My friend offered to 'look after' my baby - nothing was said about bonding with the grumpy cat - and yes she is called Mog - how did you guess?

Another thing that's annoyed me is that my friend's dh came home right after this happened and said absolutely nothing!

That really was a clever cat, has the cat been known to be forgetful as well?

FionaSH · 02/07/2010 20:11

Mmmmm does louii have a point perhaps? I might change my earlier post to YABALU

TheFirstLady · 02/07/2010 20:11

How will you feel if Mog dies? I know it makes me very tearful if I happen to read think about it.
