YANBU.

I hate most of the abbreviations. What makes me laugh is that I can imagine most people on here getting wound up with 'text speak', but the abbreviations are hardly better.

So read the acronyms thread or page or whatever it now is.

YABU.Text speak is fine when one is texting but not online. Abbreviations however are part of the language and culture of the internet and have been for quite a long time now, certainly since I began to use the internet in 1997.
It's appropriate to use them online, so long as one's conversation doesn't consist solely of abbreviations.

DD, DH etc is necessary because if someone started going on about "Fred" how do you know if they mean their husband, their son or their budgie? Hard to keep track of 1000+ posters' families so the abbreviations are necessary.

The others I can understand you getting annoyed with but there are abbreviation lists and MN doesn't overuse them in my experience. Not like other places where they are like "LOL" all the time

Don't use them if you don't like them.

If you don't know what others are on about, then read the bloody acronym list. Not hard.

And I agree with SEA, not a fan of dull names.

Fuck off we don't care what you think.

No offence and that.

To be serious when you are typing ona fast moving thread it is much easier to use DH or DD1/2 than 'my husband' or 'my eldest daughter', 'my youngest child'.
and on veyr fast mving threads time is off the essence. Plus it would make thread titles awfully long.
