Katy Ashworth
Full Biography
At only 23 years old Katy is new to TV but has definitely found a career that suits her talent. She is confident in front of the camera and appeals to all ages. She has warmth, likeability and humour and is also a skilled actor, singer and musician.
Katy has recently been chosen to host a new flagship CBeebies series combining all these performance skills called I Can Cook. Aimed at getting the under-sixes in the kitchen, the series celebrates a hands-on approach to cooking and discovers the magic of the full cycle of food. From the field to the fork, children learn to connect what's on their plate everyday with the world around them. The children learn how to grow it, cook it and eat it accompanied by Katy's original songs which she sings and plays on her guitar.
Katy studied Drama at the University of Exeter and achieved a first class degree. Whilst at university she was the Head Female Vocalist for their jazz orchestra and during her holidays she embarked on a four week intensive Commedia Dell'Arte course in Reggio Emelia in Italy. There she honed her improvisation and characterisation skills. Since then she has worked as Choir Director and President of the Universities Soul Choir in addition to being Choir Director for Rock Choir Plus Ltd, based at the Manor Pavilion Arts Centre in Devon. She also uses her excellent vocal skills when performing with the Sylvan Road Trio touring all round the country.
Katy has a natural bond with children and has spent much of her adult life educating and entertaining young kids through drama and music. She spent two years working as a freelance class facilities for Stage Coach Theatre Arts teaching 3-6 year olds and was the narrator for the 'Princess Bride Summer Tour' in Devon. She is an accomplished storyteller and is co-workshop leader for 'Little Sparks Storytelling' based at the Electric Theatre in Guildford. She's had great fun working at Disneyland in Paris as a character and parade performer and one of her highlights was travelling to Lapland and acting as the Arctic Express Elf!!! This love of entertaining a young audience has also led to her organising children's themed parties and events - locally in her home town of Hampshire and subsequently at the Dubai Shopping Festival where she also face painted for the children.
She has a love of radio and spent time working voluntarily at Frimley Park Hospital Radio Station in her youth.
Katy is professional, enthusiastic and ambitious and will undoubtedly be a success in everything she does.
