To think if BILs 2yo has suspected swine flu they shouldn't expect MIL to look after her

BIL & SIL have 2yo off nursery with suspected swine flu (although she's been running around the house) Instead of one or the other taking time off they are expecting MIL to care for her. MIL is 66, diabetic and living on her own. Surely common sense would be that she shouldn't be put at this kind of risk.
MIL will not say no to them, even though she said to me last night that DH & I would be the only ones to check on her if she did fall ill. Pretty bad when we live 120 miles away and BIL is just around the corner

YANBU - you need to either call them yourself or get your husband to (i'm guessing either the BIL or SIL is his relation) and tell them that they cannot leave a child with suspected swine flu with someone elderly and at risk. They just cannot do it, simple as that.
If their child really is running round the house then maybe they'll change their 'diagnosis' pretty sharpish, otherwise one of them needs to take time off work.
Not fair on your MIL and someone needs to stand up for her.

people with diabetes are at greater risk of complications if they catch swine flu so your MIL should not be caring for him . Even a viral illness is risky to diabetics so even if your nephew does not have swine flu he should be looked after by someone with a decent immune system.

yanbu at all! Even if she didn't have diabetes and even if it was a different virus, I don't think MIL should have to look after an infectious child.

Thanks for the support. Have spoken to SIL, but she has important meetings she can't miss this week, and BIL has 'responsibilities' to his team. Get pretty fed up when MIL will do anything for them, but when she had a knee replacement last year, I was the one to leave DD1 with friends (goes to school) and took DD2 (hadn't yet started) out of nursery to look after her. Really don't mind cos I know MIL is always on hand in an emergency for us, but seems to be pushing it a bit they think because I am a SAHM I can just drop everything while their lives keep on turning.
MIL even says I would be the only one to call if she was ill (DH works away all week so can't be there for her).

YANBU at all. I have diabetes and was told by our practice nurse that I really need to have the swine flu injection as although I class myself as healthy my immune system will not be great so I am having the injections tomorrow. So what if the child has swine flu although doesn't really sound like it if they are running around the place and your MIL gets it. Will they take time off work to look after her no I don't think so. What scared me into having it was the nurse said one of the doctors friends had a low immune system and caught swine flu tragically she died leaving 2 young children.
