Im not though. I live in a council house! These are the things i have done to try and 'raise my game';
Have a vegetable patch.
Breastfeed for ages.
Go to baby massage classes.
Recycle my household waste.
Try not to watch jeremy kyle.
I am hoping to get a place at uni in september, that will definately make me middleclass surely?

You have to add : Refuse to go to bingo.

I am a snob according to my dsis because I won't go and play bingo down at Gala once a week .

Yes you are middle class. Actually, you know someone is really middle class when they start banging on about how they're not, because despite all their books, education and farmers' market cheese in their smeg fridge, their mum was a cleaner or somesuch.

I think it is nice to do fun or worthwhile things, and not worry about which class they are associated with.

In fact worrying about class makes me feel a bit queasy and unclean.

O so us people that watch jeremy kyle are lower class people. Its about making the most off what you have. Im a single mum and have 3 children working hard at a uni degree in psychology and like to sit down and watch Jeremy Kyle while the kids are at school, excuse me for liking a show it must mean im lower class and you are superior to me you are just a snob really. A vegetable patch you must be desperate to be in the middle class off society get real you are who you are

I think you are already middle class.

is vegetable patch a euphemism for fanny

Report
ZephirineDrouhin · 08/11/2009 23:56

I don't think so, sm. I've heard working class women have fannies too.

Surely those things are about motivation and intelligence rather than class?

Being Middle class is in many ways a state of mind, your attitudes and expectations of life. It's not all about income.
A university education will definitely equip you with middle class attitudes and expectations. You do sound fairly middle class already though.

fannying about being angst about one's class.tells me you are middle class.

no one gets their drawers in a twist quite like the middle classes and their obsession with labels and social stratification

I don't know, I know a fair few people desperately hanging on to their working class roots.

Report
Booyhoo · 09/11/2009 00:51

are there different classes of fannies?

moondog · 09/11/2009 01:01

Blimey Kjm, let's hope your essays are more carefully constructed than that or you will beo ut on your ear, whatever class you are.

Well I must be shit on your shoe...

I live in a housing assocaition house
I don't have a veg patch
Never even attempted to BF
Did'nt go to baby massage
I have been known to indulge and watch Jeremy Vile

Although I do recycle

The fact that you actually worry about this stuff is quite sad TBH.

A rented house, a degree, lone parent, read the Independent/Times/Telegraph, mum was a cleaner, (dad worse!), got a veg patch, never B/F, don't own a television, told I'm well spoken.... where does that place me?

And does it really matter?

So if I'm -

married with 3 kids (all of them BF - more economical )

don't know what baby massage is all about

own my own house but will probably never finish paying for it ,

grew up on a council estate

can't watch JK anyway cos I'm at work,

Does that make my fanny working class then?

NTS must ask AP about Jeremy K, see what it's all about x
