I see your reason for it but I'd be abit annoyed if my neighbour did it cos I know the cats would be in it all constantly spreading it around everywhere.

I'm in N Leeds and ours (and our neighbours) have been out by the end of the drives for the last five weeks. Yes there is a temproary service, but it is on any given day not the usual day so it's take them in and risk missing them being emptied or leave them out and at least have a three weekly service.....which has reduced our number of tip runs to one a fortnight instead of more. We've also given up on our rather virtuous recycling as well

I have every sympathy with anyone losing money as a result of the equal pay act, but am intrigued as to why other councils have resolved this issue without strikes? Is Leeds the only local authority affected?

By us half the wheelie bins have got broken tops or aren't shut completely and the recycle tubs don't have lids so the cans get strewn all over the place in the parking area so when you park you risk running over a can/cat/bottle etc.

I do get your point am just saying I'd be annoyed when trying to park that's here though.

I'm in Bradford and my DH is a binman, it looks like they will be striking before xmas as well. So not just leeds!

I'm glad to read that people are behind the binmen as people i have spoken to locally are not as understanding as you lot have been.

I'm just wondering whether we, as residents, have a legal case for withholding some of our council tax for the year, as refuse collection is one of the things we pay for!

We are trying to recycle as much as possible, and we are lucky that DH has a company car so don't care if it smells of rubbish, but it's the people without transport I feel for; they can hardly take their binbags on the bus can they?

I'm at the overflowing bins across the street from the tip though.

We have only had three collections in eight weeks WW.

PILs in E Leeds and they have only had a collection every three weeks as well. It seems a bit hit and miss as to what happens where.

I know our street witheld our council tax one week cos they had forgotten to collect our bins and weren't gonna come out till next time (therefore 4 weeks worth of rubbish to be collected)
It will only work if you ALL do it otherwise they'll just fine the few rather than take notice of the many.

I'm in E Leeds and rubbish collected every 2nd Weds since strike began ..... but its still not enough for me so dread to think how others are coping with fewer collections. Also only just got my recycling bin a few weeks before the strike started (despite numerous calls to council to request one).

My fear is that the council are going to use this strike to push through permanent use of private companies or of reduced collections i.e. fortnightly collections will be the norm even when the dispute is over?

My understanding of the issue is that .... Instead of bringing other VERY LOW PAID workers up to the level the bin men are paid, they are lowering rates of pay for the bin men. Please correct me as my "understanding" of this sort of thing is not always correct!

I'm supporting the bin men in this .... and LCC are the worst local authority I have ever come across.
