AIBU?

to be pee'd off that my builders had put up a sign on my fence advertising themselves without even asking my permission?

should I ask them to remove it before they leave tomorrow, or just remove it myself, it looks well screwed into the fence!

I imagine they will remove it before they leave anyway, they arent going to leave it up after they are gone

I would make sure they havent damaged the fence

Just ask them to take it down, I would. It's your fence.

I wish my builders would put a sign like that up. Instead, they have just buggered off on another more lucrative job and left us high and dry not knowing when/if they will be back.

Make sure they haven't damaged your fence and ask if you get a discount since they are using your fence as a billboard.

They will remove it when they go. What is the problem unless it has damaged your fence and they don't put it right?

Are you REALLY so petty you would risk pissing them off by removing it yourself while they are working on your property?

What a ridiculous thing to get worked up about.

It's nice to be asked about something like that first though Geepers...

I think it's cheeky and presumptious especially as they have had to actually screw it into the fence.

They are presumably being paid the going rate to do a job - if they also want to make holes in your fence to afford themselves free advertising they should make that clear when agreeing terms.

If they had an iota of customer service awareness they should at least pretend they are giving you a discount because of it.

I wouldn't remove it (they will probably remove it themselves when they finish) but would make the point as to whether you are going to receive a discount for providing ad space.

IME this is common practice. Every major job I've had done (windows/extension/fencing etc) has involved the companies doing the work sticking their advertising on the front of the house (no front fencing).

My only problem here would be if they have actually damaged the fence - in which case I'd be looking for them to make good the damage or give a discount on your job.

Well they've been working for me since Monday and they only put the sign up yesterday when I was out of the house all day, they're not working today but are finishing off Friday, so I 'll ask them to remove it. Just don't want to piss them off whilst they have my door keys. I think it would have been polite if they'de have asked.

It doesn't matter if it's common practice or not, it's good manners to at least mention it first - not everyone wants to have it attached to their fence. YANBU at all (or petty) but communicate with them as they should have done with you!!
