One thread didn't seem enough to get across just how VILE Parma Violets are.

I'd rather eat floury, talc-flavoured, pebbles from the back of my granny's wardrobe.

YUK.

YABU, I think they're lovely

They're not so bad! (In a vile sort of way!) They're one of those things I have to keep trying, just to make sure I don't like them!

Send them all to me. I love them!

YABVU - because you are wrong. They are lovely.

I also like sprouts.

Oh hang on, I should just say YANBU, anyone who doesn't like their parma violets can give them to me.

Go, eat your talc-flavoured pebbles...

Yes aren't they disgusting. In fact I thought they were, literally, floury talc-flavoured pebbles from the back of your granny's wardrobe.

I remember when I first tasted one as a child and was just horrified that anyone thought that was food. It tasted like soap. Likewise "American cream soda" - tastes like hairspray.

Gah! BlairSnitch, you keep beating me to it. I'm hungry!

You like sprouts and you still think you can give other people food advice??

YABU!

They have nothing to do with sprouts, which are the food of the gods!

There's some nasty food secrets coming out now...

Someone's going to log in and claim to like tripe any minute. You wait and see..

YANBU - they are the foulest, most pointless 'sweets' ever. Specifically designed for elderly female relatives to give to small children in the certain knowledge that said children will be hugely disappointed.

Parma violets smell nice though. Don't eat, just sniff

Why is this being discussed just now though... someone been raiding the multipack of rubbish meant for Halloween, by any chance? [stern look]

Report
Fruitbatlings · 28/10/2009 20:28

They taste like soap, bleeuughh

Tripe doesn't do it for me either - never had it but I've also never eaten dog poo, doesn't mean I'll like it

My bleugh list:

Celery
Houmous
Parma Violets
Marzipan
Tea
Licorice

I love Parma Violets. As well as Dandelion and Burdock, ginger ale and adore sprouts.

Airetauriel · 28/10/2009 20:29

YABU. They taste amazing. Love them.

They are the marmite of the sweetie world though I will admit.

Even better are the giant parma violets you can get, oo-er missus. Cheap as chips as well!

Report
Fruitbatlings · 28/10/2009 20:30

bleugh! Ginger ale can fuck off too
along with pure stem ginger (love ginger nuts though)

lindsaygii · 28/10/2009 20:30

Tea???

You can't not like tea - that's impossible!!

Marzipan and licorice are totally bleugh though. Also, caviare. No, really. It tastes like salty mank.

I don't think I have ever had parma violets, but I think I wuld probably like them. My favourite sweets are floral gums and cherry lips.

Report
Fruitbatlings · 28/10/2009 20:34

Tea is totally pointless....
At least you get a hit from a good cup of coffee

Report
hocuspontas · 28/10/2009 20:34

Can you actually buy them separately or are they just used for bulk in variety packs?

But YANBU they are disgusting. It's against the Trades Description Act to call them sweets. And children NEVER pick them from the said variety packs and scream if all the others are gone. Poor things

Report
lindsaygii · 28/10/2009 20:36

Floral gums should be banned under the European Convention. What's the point of having Human Rights if they still sell stuff like that in sweet shops?

Yes I hate caviare too. It is the fishiest fishy stinky fish taste ever, like a disgusting old rotting dead sardine. How anyone ever decided it was luxurious and worth loads of money is beyond me.

Report
Fruitbatlings · 28/10/2009 20:41

I've thought of another seeing as we're on the subject of luxurious foods.......

Anything slimy - like Oysters and Muscles

YABVVVU

I had violet ice cream in a very posh ice cream shop in France this summer and it tasted like parmaviolets. I kept exclaiming 'it tastes like parmaviolets' to the bemusement of my American friends

Btw, the word recognition thingy on my iPhone knew parmaviolets. There must be a techy at Apple who likes them.
