To expect my mother to keep her nose out and stop imparting her wisdom

OK, its been years since my mum upset me by her opinions on my life and poking her nose in.

I have 4 kids, and she thinks I am crazy and wont be able to cope because we have just bought a puppy. She keeps phoning me and telling me how I wont cope, how Ive taken too much on. Tonight my dad chipped in and told me I wanted my brain testing.

The obvious answer is F. off mother Im a big girl now, but recently I have relied on her for emotional support. Trouble is, when I do this, she sort of gets over involved in my problems and quizzes me daily on progress of this that and the other. This then leads to a period of me not telling her anything because I resent the interference.

Am I being unreasonable to expect my 76 year old mother to stop criticizing my decisions, interfering etc., after all Im 50 and I left home when I was 19!!

On the surface YANBU of course
BUT if the reason you ahve been relying on her recently is because you are finding it hard to cope, then I could see why she would be so down on the idea of you adding to your stress levels!!
My Mum does that. She talks for hours about how much stress she has, how she is fnding things hard etc, then she goes out and buys a puppy! It does make me a little less sympathetic (and less likely to rush over to help out) next time she is upset over having so much on her plate tbh

I have grown up children of my own too, and I dont stick my nose in or offer my opinions. I think they appreciate my lack of interference. I will ask them though if they want me to poke my nose in a bit more and be a bit of a dictator.
