to dress my 18 mth old as a geography teacher for Halloween?

OK, so we're supposed to dress our children up for playgroup tomorrow in honour of Halloween. It's an American playgroup (I live in Spain) and I didn't realise dressing up was required. SOoooo..I have cut one of DH's ties in half (AND hemmed it, v domestic) and am planning to dress DS (18 mths) in his grey trousers, a white short sleeved shirt and a tie and to draw a little moustache on him. Then I'll say he's a geography teacher. Or a bank manager.

I know this is a bit crap...but HOW crap is it? Is it too crap to actually do? Any other last minute ideas for Halloween costumes (don't have to be scary, apparently) that can be made in less than 15 mins by someone quite cack-handed with normal stuff lying around the average home??

It is going to be very scary, very political, as the teachers wont be able to decide whether you have tried to do Hitler or Mussolini.

Or Salvador Dali.

Scary in either case.

OK, I'm sorry - but it is a bit crap.

Can't you just take an old white sheet and cut two eye holes in it and draw a scary face on it? A bit of ribbon / elastic will hold it around your son's head....

At least it's sort of a haloween theme...

It is a bit bonkers
Can you not think of anything halloween related that you could do?
A sheet into a ghost outfit?
A sheet into a big cloak to make a wizard?
Black outfit and drawn on whsikers for a black cat?
Black outfit and some black tights stuffed with paper sewn on/pinned on to be a spider?

Or, an all in one plain baby grow and draw lighting flashes and call him a space man?

That is officially the weirdest Halloween costume idea ever.

or tip-x some bones onto a black t shirt and some black trousers.

Or, if you really want to stick with what you've got so far, can you get your hans on any straw and make him a scarecrow (the haloween theme is getting a bit thin - but at least it'ssomething slightly scary)

but he'll never keep a sheet on!! bad enough getting him to wear a hat, let alone an all over sheet!!

Seriously, Americans don't dress up as witches and ghosts and stuff for Halloween - they all dress up as Pippi Longstocking and stuff. V weird. But to my advantage this time I think.

He doesn't have any black clothes and no time to go shopping.

The other idea was to paint him green and say he was the Incredible Hulk but I haven't got any green facepaint and even I draw the line at just colouring him in with felt tips...

straw!! where will I find straw in Madrid at 9am?? (or 1130pm).

Scarecrow is good idea tho.

I could draw a beard instead and tie the tie round his waist and say he's a pirate?

Shouldnt he have a tweed jacket with leather elbows plus chalk marks to qualify as a geography teacher lookalike?

Thanks thisisyesterday one vote of confidence is enough!

Yes though, maybe it is not really a geography teacher look. Driving instructor??

At least by the end of the day, he will be able to colour without going over the lines.

You could always say he was Harold Shipman

I did post this once before, but MIL sent DH to a Halowe'en party as Hitler when he was 7. Ah for the gentler days of the '70s!

yes, yes, bank managers ARE scary. So are driving instructors. Geography teachers can probably be quite nice though (although mine wasn't) so maybe that's the wrong description. Bet weegiemum is nice

I am going to be a bit careful with the tache, to NOT make it too Hitler. I thought I'd make it more all along the lip but I also don't really want him to look like a Francoist Falange member if possible...hmmm...who knew Halloween could get so political??

Could you say he's Raoul from the Addams family?

Report
starkadder · 27/10/2009 22:41

Hi busybutterfly - I could, but he has blond hair...also I don't think he'll look quite sharp enough. He'll also be wearing socks with sandals, I should have said - his new winter shoes are a bit too big and make him trip over...
