AIBU?

to find this a little bit odd (despite also being very grateful)?

DS1 is 11, and on half term.

Neighbours DS was 2 last week & they had a little party for him which they kindly invited DS1 & 2 (aged 8) to, which was very nice of them as we barely know them despite the fact they have lived next door for two years (slight disclaimer - they live next door to my Ex, although DSs are there every weekend, I havent lived there for 18 months...DSs said however they dont really know them anyway and have only seen them a few times)

So, today DS was at home riding his bike in the garden (half term) & neighbours invited him to come over to play with their DS....following which he then went to the park with them, then was taken into town and out for lunch & finally got back about 6-ish. He seems to have had a great time.

I'm honestly really grateful to them - it saved DS from going round to his GPs, which he hates, as he either has to help Ex-mil with the washing or sit watching re-runs of Taggart with Ex-pil

But, lovely though DS1 is, I find it a little odd that the neighbors would spend all day with a child they don't really know- especially as their own DS is only little.

Am fully prepared to be told IABU for thinking this - and ungrateful (although I'm really not the latter) & I accept that the fact I dont really like other peoples children is probably colouring my view somewhat

I suspect your DS is brilliant with their little boy and they are making the most of him being there! As long as they are sensible parents and he is having fun it's a win / win situation.

Well, to be fair to DS whilst he can be as much of a stroppy, rude 11 year old as his peers, he loves babies/toddlers & is really patient with them.

And the neighbours do seem really nice (clearly much nicer people than I am! )

They are probably enjoying having an older child play with their wee one. Have you forgotten how much work 2yo are? Your DS will be keeping him amused.

My 12 year old is very popular with neighbours with young children as she keeps the children amused for ages.

Have to agree with the others, your DS will be keeping theirs amused therefore although they have an extra child to look after still less work than one bored, narky toddler!!
