Popped in this morning with DD to look at their halloween stuff - it was all over-priced tat. Had a quick look at the children's clothes which were rubbish and there was tons of cheap Xmas crap - is it just me? Why does everyone rave about this place

There was something depressing about it too - thye staff and customers looked equally miserable

Disclaimer - I don't have a problem with cheap shops - we often buy clothes in Asda/Tesco etc

I hate matalon as well - really poor quality. I love a bargain and buy a fair bit from charity shops and ebay but wouldn't part with my cash in Matalan at all.

I don't shop there but was given some babygros for DD from there and they were terrible quality - they had piping round the edge which was frayed even before the first wash.

(I did appreciate the giver giving them to us though! Just disappointed in the quality).

HOwever, back in the day I do remember getting some Diesel Jeans for a bargain price in there so it can't all be bad.

I was in Matalan yesterday on a fruitless search for boys swim trunks. It does suck the life out of you.

I bought a scarf (veh nice actually) and the young guy on the till said to me

" Have a good one, yeah?"

Matalan tends to be a bit hit or miss (bit like Primark) You can go in there and it'll be full of rubbish, and then the next time there will be loads of decent quality, reasonably priced stuff. I find going in there for something specific is usually fruitless, you normally see more if you go in for a general wander.

bought DD some ooutfits from there- she's just grown into them so we shall see.....

I hate it for normal clothes though- they could really do with selling nursing bras. However, I really liked the cheap summer clothes/ skirts/ vests for the beach.

I went in there today actually for the first time in years and was really suprised at the poor quality and range of the kids clothes. It just seemed to be endless pairs of black jeans (which I hate) and shirts for little boys. I did get some cheap slippers for my DS though but won't be going back there again in a hurry!

I've only ever bought a few bits from Matalan for me, I was really shocked by the high price of their childrens clothes considering how cheap it looked.

matalan rocks - particularly for girls under 4. their girls' stuff is lovely - i LOVE their dresses and pinafores for this age...

I bought some really nice long t-shirts in there a couple of weeks ago but did it through their website which has my size (18) in more abundance than the shops.

I heart matalan. Although must admit that the halloween stuff is incredibly overpriced.

I hate Matalan and avoid it if I can - our local one always looks like a jumble sale.

The best Matalan is in Newport on the IoW. They always have lovely things in there for dd, really pretty little tops and trousers that she wears to nursery and PILs.

Plus it's the only place you can get Rogers and Rogers clothes. It used to be a fat bird's shop but the clothes were really funky. It was the first ever shop to get me out of t shirts and jeans. Alas now they just have a few racks in Matalan. No longer funky but occasionally something good pops up.

I don't go into Matalan anymore because I can never find the exit when I want to leave. The only way to get out appears to be to buy something. Every time I do that, I can immediately see the exit. Scary!!

you should all consider buying from their website as you don't like the stores, you get all the choice you don't get in-stores

I loved it when dd was a baby. Had some sweet dresses and lots of shorts and t-shirts sets at bargainous prices.

I quite like matalan actually. I think the quality is better than Primark but then I have only bought a few things there and maybe I got lucky. I have been in a couple of their stores which were jumble sales but my local one is lovely and well laid out. My favourite jeans in the world are my ark blue, boot cut flamer jeans as they are so comfortable and flattering and such good quality that I have 4 pairs. And only 14 quid

Ooh I didn't know you could buy from their website, you never used to be able to. I have got some fab stuff in there - there is a lot of tat but also some really amazing things that look more expensive than they are

Every time you buy something from our Matalan they say "Have you got an email address or access to a computer at all?" obv trying to send you junk etc. Without fail everyone says "no" which I think is hilarious coz of course almost everybody does have an email address.
