Just found dear enthusiastic DH cleaning the bathroom (he had done two and was on the third - not a big house but we have got lots of bathrooms). Anyway I commented when I saw him scrub the inside of the loo - UNDER the water line - and then bring the cloth outside to clean the outside of the loo bowl. I then asked if he used a different cloth for the other bathrooms. Turns out he had used one little sponge cloth for all three bathrooms, all three have been subjected to the scrubbing down the loo treatment and then he takes the cloth to the next bathroom, wipes down the sides where our toothbrushes sit, does the bath, and then repeats with the loo procedure!

Three loos, one cloth, three sets of bathroom sides, floors and baths now covered in poo germs!

Am I the only person who thinks this gross, and uses seperate cloths, loo brushes or bits of loo roll to clean the loo and a cloth kept seperately for the sides?

He thinks I am being mean and not appreciating the brilliant job he has done with the sparkly bathrooms! I feel slightly sick.

You are totally right. Did your DH never study biology?

Sorry, but and

Caught DH doing the exact same thing a while ago so we now have a cleaner for this very reason.

I have 3 loos like you and use three scourers. I always clean the sinks, surfaces, bath etc and end with the loo after which the scourer gets binned.

10/10 for enthusiasm but he needs educating on the hygeine element!

oh dear... yanbu
i think you'll have to re do it but just tell him you appreciate the effort but he has done it wrong, and next time he needs to do it correctly as its unhygenic. im sure he didnt do on purpose and had a good intention so i wouldnt be too harsh on him, as you would put him off trying housework in future? but make it clear how it should be done next time

My DP cannot even be trusted to wipe properly in the kitchen - he smears greasy, dirty, unwrong cloths all over the table and work surfaces to "clean them" (doesn't use any product) and then leaves them water sodden but neatly folded on the draining board. The whole thing stinks after a few hours...

Oh God that is disgusting.

Make him do all the surfaces again with a clear cloth and antibac or dettol.

So now you have to do it all over? Nice one H

Well it depends where you start.

My bathroom is fully tiled so when I'm in the shower I squirt the whole area with Flash bathroom and scrub it.

Then I do the sink and sides with grot buster which is bleach based.

Then I clean the loo with another bleach based limescale product.

So the loo gets done last and all the bleach/wee/shit gets rinsed out well (and bleach kills bacteria anyway)

And the next time I start in the bath again.

All with the same sponge.

YANBU.
I have dettol wipes just for the loo. The cloth gets used on baths & basins only.

Barf.

However, IF he has used inordinate amounts of cleaner, and the sponge etc is steeped in it, then you will probably be OK. That stuff is pretty lethal. Unless there were chunks of anything involved (oh dear god).

Well, if you know that poo was cleaned off the toilet with the cloth, YABNU.

Otherwise if he has used bleach, were are all the "poo germs" coming from?

They do this in hotels you know. Read about some journalist who posed as a cleaner in a top hotel, the cleaners were so short of time and products one cloth cleaned the toilet, the bath, the sink, everything. Nice.

And I have to say even if I could afford it this is why I wouldn't get a cleaner, for fear they'd do the same [ocd sufferer]

2 cloths people.

Pink for sink.
Blue for loo.

But do you clean all your loos with the same cloth in one cleaning session?

One cloth per loo here, and it goes straight in a boil wash.

Report
onepieceoflollipop · 24/10/2009 13:30

No Anna I don't. Oh no. Imagine wiping round the bowl on one loo, then starting on the top/seat of the next one with the same cloth. yuk.

Report
Squishabelle · 24/10/2009 13:35

Ermmm - whats wrong with using the same cloth to clean ALL the loos in a single cleaning session? Am I missing something here?
